Texas Rangers relief pitcher Mike Adams may miss the playoffs after being diagnosed with thoracic outlet syndrome Sunday The condition, which causes pain in the neck and shoulder, can affect how a pitcher grips the ball. It will cause him to be shut down for at least a week. Adams, who allowed three homers Thursday, underwent an MRI on his right shoulder and around the trapezius muscle in his neck Friday in the wake of more pain. The test revealed no significant damage to the shoulder joint and he was diagnosed with a "mild cervical strain.” Continued treatment and rest is the method for recovery. "I can't keep going out there with nothing,” Adams said before the diagnosis. "I had nothing on my fastball (Thursday). It's not helping anybody.” Adams has already received an injection of anti-inflammatory steroids for the condition, then took a week off. He returned to pitch three scoreless innings, but allowed five base runners in that time. Adams said...

Rangers may be without reliever Adams for playoffs

Rangers reliever Mike Adams is out for the rest of the regular season and questionable for the playoffs because of a condition that causes numbness and tingling in the fingers. Adams says he has been diagnosed with Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, which is caused by a bone in the upper body pressing against a nerve. Adams won't fly with the team Sunday night for the final regular...

Rangers Injury News: Yu Darvish, Mike Adams

While Texas Rangers setup man Mike Adams received some good news yesterday regarding his injury, the right-hander is still out indefinitely with only a few games left in the regular season.  Though there’s no timeframe on Adam’s return, right-hander Yu Darvish said he’s set to start Sunday after Friday’s successful bullpen session. Adams has struggled with...
COSTUME PARTY

Napoli uploads pics of Rangers rookie hazing

Even though we're weeks away from Halloween, Mike Napoli and his Rangers teammates put on one heck of a costume party this weekend. The Rangers decided to haze their rookie class on Sunday night and the backstop was kind enough to snap some photos and post them to Twitter for all to enjoy. Check out the gallery below. Rangers reliever Mike Adams out atleast a week

The bullpen of the Texas Rangers will be a little weaker going forward. Reliever Mike Adams is expected to miss seven to ten days following a diagnosis for thoracic outlet syndrome. While Adams will miss the rest of the season the Rangers remain hopeful that he will return for some of the playoffs. A key member of the Rangers bullpen, Adams is 5-3 with a 3.27 ERA in 61 appearances...

Rangers lose, A’s clinch postseason spot

Throwing your 21-year-old rookie on the mound for a game you need to win to clinch the division title probably isn’t the best idea.  But considering what other pitchers were available, it probably wasn’t the worst idea either. Martin Perez looked like he was feeling every bit of the pressure in the 1st inning, giving up three hits and a walk.  He was fortunate only two runs...

Rangers: Baseball investigating homophobic slur

Texas Rangers general manager Jon Daniels says someone posted a homophobic slur on pitcher Derek Holland's Twitter account Sunday that was directed at a heckler. Major League Baseball is investigating the post, which was quickly taken down. Holland said Monday in Oakland he was pitching at the time and he didn't do it. He noted that only his fiancee, Lauren, had access to...

Playoff scramble: Chaos, confusion are kinda fun

The Texas Rangers are totally set for the playoffs, eager to break out the bats, balls and gloves for really big games. Maybe they should log on to MapQuest, Hotels.com and Travelocity, too. Because with three days left on the schedule, the postseason picture is still impossibly scrambled. An October free-for-fall, with not a single team yet certain of when, who and where it will...

Nathan blows save, win in matinee

Yu Darvish vs. Zack Greinke.  Now that’s a Fan Appreciation Day pitching match-up I can get behind.  And it was pretty thrilling, probably moreso for Rangers fans. The Rangers bats got to Greinke early, scoring four times on four hits in the first three innings.  The last RBI hit was off the bat of Adrian Beltre in the 3rd, and then Greinke seemed to settle down.  The Rangers...

Greinke pitches part of game in wrong uniform

ARLINGTON, Texas The Texas Rangers had better luck Sunday against Zack Grienke than they did against Zack Greinke. Greinke pitched the first part of Sunday's game with his last name misspelled on the back of his jersey. The spelling on the back of it was Grienke as he allowed four runs in three innings. Greinke changed jersey between innings and maybe that changed his fortune...

Orioles Get Help From Rangers in Clinching First Playoff Berth Since 1997

BALTIMORE -- The champagne was on ice, plastic shields were in place above the cubicles in the Baltimore clubhouse and couches were removed to accommodate a celebration 15 years in the making. The party never happened -- at least not at the ballpark. Baltimore clinched its first playoff berth since 1997, but not until late Sunday when the Texas Rangers beat the Los Angeles Angels...

Rangers-Athletics Preview

One win is all the Texas Rangers need to clinch a third consecutive AL West title. A victory for the Oakland Athletics would secure their return to the postseason, but they're still looking to catch the Rangers. Texas will try to hold off the hard-charging A's on Monday night when they meet in the opener of a three-game series that will determine the playoff fate of both...

(Eds: Angels 5, Rangers 4. With AP Photos.) By STEPHEN HAWKINS AP Sports Writer Torii Hunter hit a two-run double with two outs in the ninth inning, and the Los Angeles Angels boosted their wild-card chances by rallying past the AL West-leading Texas Rangers 5-4 in the opener of a day-night doubleheader Sunday.
