Eli Whiteside is packing his bags again. The backup catcher was claimed off waivers Wednesday by the Texas Rangers, who become his fourth team in two months. The Yankees claimed Whiteside off waivers from the San Francisco Giants on Nov. 5, and he signed a one-year $625,000 contract with New York on Nov. 26. The Toronto Blue Jays acquired Whiteside off waivers on Dec. 3, but they lost him to Texas on Wednesday. Whiteside, 33, played parts of the past four seasons with the Giants, though he wasn't on the playoff roster for the team's run to the World Series championship this year. He went 1-for-11 (.091) in 12 games with San Francisco in 2012. He's a career .215 hitter in five major league seasons, counting a brief stint with the Baltimore Orioles in 2005. Whiteside is known more for his defense than for his offense, and he threw out 36 percent of attempted base-stealers this year in 60 games with Triple-A Fresno. He has caught 34 percent of attempted thieves ov...

The Texas Rangers seem intent on going with Geovany Soto as their primary catcher.  They traded for Soto at the July trade deadline this past season.  However, with Mike Napoli gone to Boston, the team needed a back-up to Soto, and they got one yesterday in Eli Whiteside. According to Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the Rangers claimed Eli White Side off waivers...

Willy Taveras: Return of the King of Something

After the Marlins and the Blue Jays swung that gigantic trade some time back, I found myself researching something with regard to Emilio Bonifacio, since if there was one thing people wanted to read about after that trade, it was Emilio Bonifacio. My research led me somewhere, but it didn’t lead me where I wanted — it led me to Willy Taveras, and I couldn’t think of any reason...

The Toronto Blue Jays have signed pitchers Claudio Vargas, Richard Thompson and Juan Perez and infielders Eugenio Velez and Luis Jimenez to minor-league contracts with invitations to spring training. 2012 Positional Rankings: RH Starters

Nearing the end of the ranking process, I'm looking forward to being able to post my Top prospect master list the week of Christmas. This position is clearly the strength of the organization, with not only really good talent at the top but reasonably high grade prospects further down the list. 1. Aaron Sanchez (7/1/92) - Sanchez is no secret to anyone, electric stuff and a need...
