Yu Darvish struck out 14 and Adrian Beltre hit an RBI single with two outs in the ninth inning as the Texas Rangers beat Boston 4-3 Sunday, completing a three-game sweep and matching the Red Sox for the best record in the majors. The Rangers, Red Sox and St. Louis all have 20-11 marks. Beltre lined a hit to right-center off Clayton Mortensen (0-2) that sent home Elvis Andrus, who had reached on a two-out single and moved up on a wild pitch. The Red Sox then opted to intentionally walk Lance Berkman. Darvish matched a career high for strikeouts and left after seven innings with the score tied. Rangers closer Joe Nathan (1-0), the third reliever, worked around a walk and a hit in the ninth. While Darvish had 14 strikeouts for the second time this season, the right-hander from Japan allowed multiple homers in a game for only the second time in his 36 starts for the Rangers. David Ortiz and David Ross homered in the first two innings. The game was 3-3 when Darvish threw the last of...

Can Yu Darvish strike out 300 hitters this year?

Yu Darvish is having an unreal sophomore season for the Rangers. In seven starts and 45 2/3 innings, Darvish has a 2.56 ERA, accrued 1.9 fWAR, and has struck out a league-leading 72 hitters. To put in perspective how vast the 15 strikeout difference between Darvish and second-place AJ Burnett is, consider the fact that Burnett could throw a nine inning complete game at his current...

Fan tackles 24-ounce Beltre Buster

Move over Adam Richman ... Man vs. Food has nothing on this awesome fan at Friday night's Texas RangersBoston Red Sox game. The old saying goes that "Everything is bigger in Texas," especially the food that can be found at the concession stands at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. And on that list of gigantic food offerings is the impressive Beltre Buster. NESN cameras...

Adrian Beltre Comes Back to Haunt Red Sox, As Ex-Players Always Seem to Do (Video)

Adrian Beltre killed the Red Sox on Friday night, because of course he’s going to be the one to do it. It always seems like former Red Sox players do the most damage against their former club whenever they meet again, whether it’s Josh Reddick, Brandon Moss, Beltre or someone else from Boston’s past. NESN Nation’s Dan Duquette does have one thing to feel positive about during...

Adrian Beltre, Will Middlebrooks Can Turn to Each Other as Source of Inspiration During Weekend Series

Here comes the part where we all make a joke — something along the lines of, “Hey, why can’t the Red Sox get players like that?” Adrian Beltre turned in a monster game against the Red Sox on Friday. He went 4-for-5 and delivered a bases-clearing double that broke the game open in the fourth inning. It’s exactly the type of performance that can bust a veteran out of a prolonged...

Recap: Rangers walk off with sweep

(Photo by Rick Yeatts/Getty Images) I guess you could say it was a "good game", if you are a Rangers fan. The Sox went up 3-0 on Yu Darvish through the first two innings, then allowed 3 un-answered runs and played into the 9th in a 3-3 tie. Clayton Mortensen came in...

3 Stars of the game: Game 31

Well that certainly was not how anyone in the Red Sox organization wanted the series in Texas to go. The Sox dropped all 3 games to the Rangers, who now have allowed St. Louis and Texas to tie them with the best record in the major leagues at 20-11. Starting pitching was not the problem in the last 2 games of this series, the lack of run support was. Here are the 3 stars of the game...

Beltre, Holland lead charge past Red Sox

The Rangers must have known somehow that I had a bad day and needed them tonight.  They sure came through.  What good boyfriends! Derek Holland was pretty great.  He tossed eight scoreless innings, allowing six hits and walking one while fanning six.  He didn’t have his usual meltdown inning, and he didn’t seem to lose focus even after his teammates gave him a nice big cushion...

Cold bats plague Red Sox in series sweep to Rangers

For the first time this year, the Boston Red Sox were outplayed in a series after being swept by the Texas Rangers over the weekend.  The Rangers starting pitching was no match for the Red Sox hitters as Boston was able to manage just four runs in the series. Yu Darvish’s start on Sunday was the highlight of the series as he struck out 14 Boston hitters on Sunday after surrendering...

Red Sox-Rangers Live: Jon Lester, Yu Darvish Ready for Battle of Aces in Series Finale

12:30 p.m.: Will Middlebrooks has really been struggling, both in the field and at the plate. The Red Sox third baseman will be given the day off on Sunday. Middlebrooks is 3-for-19 on Boston’s current road trip, which negates the strides he appeared to be making at the plate toward the tail end of the team’s recent homestand. Making matters worse is that Middlebrooks made an...
