The Texas Rangers are focusing on acquiring outfield help as Major League Baesball’s July 31 trade deadline approaches but that will not stop them from seeking other improvements.
With Lance Berkman’s status unknown the Rangers have had internal discussions about bringing back Michael Young reports CBS Sports.
The Rangers have been mentioned in connection to outfielder Hunter Pence, Alex Rios, Marlon Byrd and Chris Denorfia as outfield help but the addition of Young could help fill the void of a lineup without Berkman.
Young was traded to the Phillies along with cash for two minor leaguers this winter after spending 13 seasons with the Rangers at the big league level.
The Rangers and Young have had a close relationship in the past and his leadership role in the clubhouse are two reasons this deal could be completed. That Philadelphia is quickly fading in the NL East is another.
