Found December 03, 2012 on Fox Sports:
Every offseason, I get a headache trying to figure out what the Texas Rangers are doing. This offseason, that headache is approaching a migraine -- one that probably is afflicting club officials, too. On one hand, the Rangers are trying to re-sign free-agent outfielder Josh Hamilton and catcher/first baseman Mike Napoli. On the other hand, they're also engaged in active trade discussions for Arizona right fielder Justin Upton, according to major league sources. Same idea with starting pitching. On one hand, the Rangers are trying to sign free-agent right-hander Zack Greinke. On the other hand, they're also discussing trades for other top-of-the-rotation types, sources say, most notably Tampa Bay righty James Shields. What is the priority? Is there a priority? As the Rangers sift through all their scenarios, probably not even club officials know. The dominoes can fall in any number of ways; every move would lead to another. One thing, however, appears certain: The Range...

Sources: Texas, Hamilton progressing

The Texas Rangers and slugger Josh Hamilton are making progress on a deal, according to sources. If reached, the deal would likely be for four years, the sources said. An early, unconfirmed report said Hamilton wants $175 million for seven years. Most teams would prefer a shorter deal; Hamilton is a recovering drug addict with a history of injuries. His offensive performance,...

All quiet on Hamilton negotiations

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Josh Hamilton is the biggest name on the free agent market -- and also the biggest mystery. There has been nearly a total news blackout on Hamilton's negotiations with clubs, and that is the way the outfielder's agent, Michael Moye, wants it. Moye is a firm believer that making contract talks public works against his clients. The biggest news on the...

Rangers pursuing Hamilton, Greinke

At this point, it will be an upset if the Texas Rangers do not land one of the top two free agents. Could be outfielder Josh Hamilton. Could be right-hander Zack Greinke. Could be neither, likely will not be both. The Rangers are competing for both players, major-league sources say, while also continuing to engage in trade discussions for Arizona right fielder Justin Upton, Tampa...

It Pays To Be Fast And Furious In Free Agency

"Now batting 4th for your Philadelphia Phillies...number 32, Josh Hamilton?" (Photo courtesy of Wikipedia) As another free agent option bites the dust, the pickings at center field are getting slimmer by the day. Early last week, NL East divison rival the Atlanta Braves signed B.J Upton, viewed as the "cream...

Greinke, Hamilton set tone at winter meetings

The baseball offseason is entering its second month, and so far the biggest story has been the Miami Marlins salary dump. Thats about to change. The annual winter meetings begin Monday at the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center in Nashville, Tenn., the ideal site for an event headlined by free agents Zack Greinke and Josh Hamilton. The elaborate Opryland think sprawling...

Rangers with needs as Winter Meetings begin

The Texas Rangers have a child-like Christmas list of needs as they shop around at the Winter Meetings this week in Nashville. Texas could certainly use some bullpen help. They have to get a starting catcher. Getting a legit No. 1 would be a nice present too. And that doesn't include getting the No. 1 gift on the wish list of several teams Josh Hamilton. But it's possible...

Negotiation 301?

Here is some news that, as an aside, doesn't make me entirely happy as an A's fan who enjoys his team winning and having easy teams to beat up on in the American League West. The news is that the Rangers have put Josh Hamilton contract talks on hold to pursue Zack Greinke. You can see why this would upset me. But that's not what I'm here for. I have a whole A&...
