The Texas Rangers and left-hander Derek Holland are no longer talking contract. The two sides were discussing a five-year contract last month that included a club option for a sixth year. According to a source, those talks have stopped because they weren't in agreement on the numbers for a deal. There's still a chance the sides could resume talking before spring training. Holland is not eligible for arbitration until next year and won't be a free agent until 2016. The primary concern for the club now is reaching a deal with Japanese right-hander Yu Darvish. The Rangers have until 4 p.m. on Jan. 18 to reach a deal with Darvish, who visited the Metroplex last week and talked with Texas players Josh Hamilton and Ian Kinsler. If the Rangers can't come to an agreement with Darvish, they will not have to pay the 51.7 million posting fee and Darvish will spend this season in Japan. Last week Texas general manager Jon Daniels said the team was still looking into extending contracts of the core players. But the Rangers and catcher Mike Napoli, who will be a free agent in 2012, also agreed to work towards a one-year deal for 2012 instead of long-term pact. Napoli is arbitration eligible and can be a free agent after the season. Holland had a breakout season in 2011, winning 16 games. His Game 4 start against St. Louis in the World Series may have been the postseason highlight for Texas. Holland, 25, pitched 8 13 shutout innings and allowed just two hits in the 4-0 victory.
