PLAYERS: Lance Berkman
TEAMS: Texas Rangers
The Texas Rangers held designated hitter Lance Berkman out of the lineup for last night’s weekend opener after the veteran slipped coming off the team plane on Thursday, according to Master Tesfatsion of MLB.com. Berkman told reporters that his left foot came out from underneath him as he was walking down the stairs to exit the team plane. He ultimately landed on his back, twisting his right knee in the process. "Before I knew it, I was on my back kind of like a hurdler's stretch," Berkman said. "That's how I ended up. Thank goodness I had ahold of the hand rail or else I might've broken my neck, because I could've tumbled down the stairs." While manager Ron Washington doesn’t consider the injury to be serious – and Berkman himself didn’t even consider it an injury – the Rangers decided to play it safe with the slugger. Elvis Andrus was the team’s designated hitter last night, while Jurickson Profar manned shortstop. Texas has been extremely cautious with Berkman this season, as they have rested him from time to time in addition to using him almost strictly as DH. So far this season, the 37-year-old has hit .263/.362/.392 with 10 doubles and six home runs over 268 plate appearances. Follow @mlbinjurynews Looking for fantasy baseball advice?
