Texas Rangers left fielder David Murphy is out with a stomach virus. Murphy likely would have been back in the starting lineup Saturday night against Boston with the Rangers facing a right-handed pitcher for first time in five games. Leonys Martin, who primarily splits center field with Craig Gentry, started in left field for the second time in his career. Gentry started in center. The left-handed Murphy hasn't started since last Sunday at Minnesota, and is 1-for-18 his last eight games. He has a career average of .438 (7 of 16) against Red Sox right-hander John Lackey, the starter Saturday night. Rangers manager Ron Washington says Murphy was feeling fine Friday, but caught the virus from his wife and children.

Rangers not panicking because of offensive woes

ARLINGTON, Texas No one needs to tell the Texas Rangers they aren't getting the job done at the plate. They know it and the numbers back it up. The club also believes it can turn things around at the plate. Texas came into Friday's series opener against Boston batting just .238 over the past five games. When the Rangers have gotten hits, they haven't been able to string...

Fan tackles 24-ounce Beltre Buster

Move over Adam Richman ... Man vs. Food has nothing on this awesome fan at Friday night's Texas RangersBoston Red Sox game. The old saying goes that "Everything is bigger in Texas," especially the food that can be found at the concession stands at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. And on that list of gigantic food offerings is the impressive Beltre Buster. NESN cameras...

Nearly forgotten Nathan pitches a perfect ninth

ARLINGTON, Texas Rangers closer Joe Nathan almost had to re-introduce himself to his teammates when he finally returned to the mound Saturday. Nathan had not pitched since April 26 at Minnesota, but showed no signs of rust with a quick, 1-2-3 ninth inning in the 5-1 win over the Red Sox. It wasn't a save situation, except in the sense that it saved Nathan from having to wait...

Yu Darvish struck out 14 and Adrian Beltre hit an RBI single with two outs in the ninth inning as the Texas Rangers beat Boston 4-3 Sunday, completing a three-game sweep and matching the Red Sox for the best record in the majors. The Rangers, Red Sox and St. Louis all have 20-11 marks. Beltre lined a hit to right-center off Clayton Mortensen (0-2) that sent home Elvis Andrus, who...

Beltre, Holland lead charge past Red Sox

The Rangers must have known somehow that I had a bad day and needed them tonight.  They sure came through.  What good boyfriends! Derek Holland was pretty great.  He tossed eight scoreless innings, allowing six hits and walking one while fanning six.  He didn’t have his usual meltdown inning, and he didn’t seem to lose focus even after his teammates gave him a nice big cushion...

Texas Rangers Spoils Mike Napoli’s Homecoming in Arlington

Last offseason, the Texas Rangers lost several key players, including Mike Napoli. Napoli was the starting catcher for the Rangers for 2 seasons. He now is the first baseman for the Boston Red Sox in the American League East.  Napoli is off to a hot start,  batting .270 with 6 long balls and 31 RBIs. Napoli said that he loved playing with the Rangers and he made some good...

Red Sox Should Practice ‘Shutout Shrug’ to Move on From Derek Holland’s Dominance (Video)

Sometimes, it’s just not your night — and it certainly wasn’t on Friday night for the Red Sox. Derek Holland pitched eight shutout innings and Adrian Beltre had all the RBIs the Rangers needed to come away with a 7-0 win over the Sox. Felix Doubront was shaky early and was burned for it eventually, but the Red Sox offense never got going in a significant way anyway. NESN Nation’s...

Adrian Beltre, Will Middlebrooks Can Turn to Each Other as Source of Inspiration During Weekend Series

Here comes the part where we all make a joke — something along the lines of, “Hey, why can’t the Red Sox get players like that?” Adrian Beltre turned in a monster game against the Red Sox on Friday. He went 4-for-5 and delivered a bases-clearing double that broke the game open in the fourth inning. It’s exactly the type of performance that can bust a veteran out of a prolonged...

Red Sox Struggle on Offense Against Rangers, Remain Confident in Team to Close Out Series (Video)

The Red Sox have dropped the first two games in a three-game series with the Texas Rangers, and the Rangers have held the typically powerful Boston offense to just one run in two games. The Rangers have had their way with the Sox thus far, but third baseman Will Middlebrooks is confident his team will be able to get back in their groove on Sunday and close out the series with a...

Norman the Scooter Dog does his thing at Rangers-White Sox game

This is Norman the Scooter Dog (yes, the name just about says it all), who headlined the Texas Rangers' "Bark in the Park" event on Tuesday against the White Sox.

3 Stars of the game: Game 31

Well that certainly was not how anyone in the Red Sox organization wanted the series in Texas to go. The Sox dropped all 3 games to the Rangers, who now have allowed St. Louis and Texas to tie them with the best record in the major leagues at 20-11. Starting pitching was not the problem in the last 2 games of this series, the lack of run support was. Here are the 3 stars of the game...

Napoli's return to Texas

Tonight starts a 3 game set against the Texas Rangers where Mike Napoli aka Big Napi, aka Hacksaw-courtesy of Dustin Pedroia, returns to his old stadium for the first time as a Boston Red Sox. Napoli began his first 11 seasons of his career with the Angels before being traded to the Rangers in 2011 where his bat came alive and where he believes his career really took off. “They...
