Ron Washington intends to stand by his man. Though Michael Young entered play Tuesday tied for the lowest WAR (wins above replacement) number among qualifiers, the Texas Rangers manager said he has no plans to fiddle with Young in the lineup. Young was 1-for-3 as the first baseman in Texas' 3-0, two-hit loss to the New York Yankees on Tuesday. It kept his batting average at .269 and his on-base-plus-slugging percentage at .643. He ranked 136th of 145 qualifiers in OPS at the start of the day Tuesday. "I know his season isn't up to par on what he's capable of doing, but I'm not getting off the ship," Washington said. "He's done it for 12 years, and the bottom line is before the year is over, he's going to do something grand for this club. I'm willing to wait for it as the manager. If fans are jumping off the ship, I'm a little surprised after all he's done for this team. "He does way more than what happens whenever he ge...

MLB ready for next "can't miss" rookie?

You might be thinking to yourself that the name "Jurickson Profar" rings a bell. It should. Last month, during the lead up to the MLB trade deadline, the Texas Rangers were looking at a number of candidates to strengthen their team for another World Series push. But Texas held up from making any blockbuster deals because the player ever team wanted in return from the...

Fantasy Baseball Call Up Report: Jurickson Profar

Prospect watch: Jurickson Profar could be Rangers’ next call-up bit.ly/Nypbon — Sporting News (@sportingnews) August 14, 2012   Mike Olt has primarily sat on the bench for the Rangers so a...

Profar not far away from majors

It appears it's not a question of if Jurickson Profar gets called up this season, but when. Both Texas Rangers club president Nolan Ryan and general manager Jon Daniels said the possibility exists that the 19-year-old shortstop, who is currently considered the second-best prospect in all of baseball by Baseball America, will be called up before Sept. 1. "It's a consideration...

Two Hamilton home runs aren’t enough

For the second night in a row, Rangers pitchers did their job while the offense floundered.  It’s so frustrating to watch this team.  I know they’re leading the AL West and have the second best record in the AL.  They still look good enough to make October, but if they keep playing like this, they won’t make it through October. Rangers fans were pretty stoked this afternoon...

Q&A: David Murphy, Underrated Ranger

David Murphy isn’t a star. The former first-round draft pick — 17th overall by the Red Sox in 2003 — has never been able to establish himself as more than a solid player. Coming into the season, his high-water marks included an .806 OPS and 2 WAR. But that doesn’t mean he isn’t getting better. Murphy now is having a career year in Texas. Entrenched as an everyday cog in...

Ryan Dempster’s Early AL Struggles

Ryan Dempster’s performance last night against the New York Yankees only fueled the argument for fans doubting that he can be a dominant pitcher in the American League.  Dempster gave up nine hits and eight runs (two homers) in six innings of work last night in the Bronx. Dempster was acquired by the Texas Rangers on July 31st with only minutes remaining before MLB’s trade deadline...

Texas Picther Ryan Dempster Gets Hammered By Yankees

Ryan Dempster didn’t want to have an outing like the one the New York Yankees handed him last night. Dempster gave up 9 hits and 8 runs as both the Yankees and the Texas Rangers were trying to get their 68th win. The Yankees would take this game 8-2 and the Rangers will have to look for their 68th win tonight to tie the Yankees at 68-47 on the season. Dempster pitched for 6 innings...

MLB best bets of the day: August 16, 2012

Texas Rangers at NY Yankees 1:05 PM Holland vs Nova The first game of the day is between two pitchers who have had their share of success and failures this season. This one won’t be easy going for the pitching as it features the top two hitting teams to date and while the Rangers haven’t [...]

Rangers avoid a sweep in New York

Ian Kinsler and Nelson Cruz were on the bench. Michael Young was at second base. Mike Olt was in right field. Weird lineup, right?  Well, it kind of worked.   Well played, Ron Washington. Or something like that. I’d like to say the defensive replacements didn’t hurt us.  But … well … Mike Olt dropped a fly ball in the 6th that would have been the final out.  And Michaelâ€...
