Rangers Showing Interest in Hawpe

With Mitch Moreland, who will supposedly start the season as the Texas Rangers first baseman since the Rangers are supposedly out on the Prince Fielder race, still nursing a wrist injury the Rangers are trying to shore up their first base depth. MLB.com said the Rangers are interested in Brad Hawpe, who was an all-star as recently as 2009 with the Colorado Rockies, played in just 62 games last season with the San Diego Padres with four home runs and a .231 average. But he has success in his past with four straight seasons of at least 20 home runs and batting averages around the .280s or .290s, albeit with the Rockies in what might be more of a launching pad than Rangers Ballpark. A Fort Worth native, Hawpe is not just a first baseman either, he also has plenty of experience as an outfielder, which could eventually allow David Murphy to be shipped out of town for some starting pitching or relief help. The possibilities are endless, let the fun begin.
