The Outside Corner:
Los Angeles Angels
The Texas Rangers, perhaps in a sense of desperation due to their struggles of late in the AL West, are calling up top prospect Mike Olt. Olt has replaced Brandon Snyder, who has played five positions for the Rangers this year, on the bench.
Olt should probably get some more substantial playing time for the Rangers this year instead of just coming off of the bench, though. For AA Frisco this year, the 24-year old Olt has 28 homers and a .977 OPS. In addition to his prodigious power, Olt possesses pretty good strike zone discipline, walking 14.5% of the time this season.
However, due to his primary position being third base (and Olt is a damn good defender there), Olt is immediately blocked in the majors by Adrian Beltre, a three win player (right now) that isn't going anywhere any time soon. However, the Rangers have had inconsistency at both first base and DH this year. Mitch Moreland, Michael Young, and Mike Napoli have all gotten substantial time at first this year, a...
BEST OF MAXIM
The Texas Rangers have done it again.
They landed a big arm at the trade deadline in the hopes of making a playoff push, and a deep run into the postseason. They acquired Cubs’ ace righty Ryan Dempster, sending two minor leaguers – Christian Villaneuva and Kyle Hendricks – to the Cubbies. Dempster’s numbers have been fantastic this season: 2.25 ERA; an ERA+ of 177, most in...
Josh Hamilton struggled at the plate for over two months, and both he and Rangers manager Ron Washington said there were some problems going on unrelated to injury. Hamilton left the problems a mystery, but said he was being disobedient to God and that the media would find out about it at the right time. Jon Heyman of CBS Sports says he knows what the problem has been for Hamilton...
Last weekend Josh Hamilton was in a 1-for-14 slump. Hamilton attempted to explain the slump by revealing that he was dealing with some personal issues and that he’s been “disobedient to God.”
Of course, those remarks added even more fuel to the fire of his woes at the plate and people began to wonder just what was going on with Hamilton. After Thursday’s game he declined...
Josh Hamilton has been struggling at the plate recently, and after some strange comments he made regarding personal issues, speculation ran rampant about the cause of his struggles. On Friday, Hamilton addressed those issues head-on in a statement to try to clear the air. "I felt it was important to clarify what the 'issue' was to which I was referring -- both personally...
Texas Rangers slugger Josh Hamilton had people scratching their heads after his somewhat bizarre ramblings to reporters about what he perceived as the causes behind his falling headway into a slump. On Saturday, July 28, Hamilton, mired in a 1-14 slump and batting a woeful .145 in July, was pulled from the lineup, told the Fort [...]
Friday night in the Big K was a bit of a snooze. Except for that three-run blast by Mitch Moreland. And I missed that part because I was out watering my plants. You’re welcome, Rangers fans. One of my twitter friends said she was sending me outside to water the next time the Rangers need a big home run. I accept.
Matt Harrison wasn’t great. He also wasn’t terrible...
Earlier in the day we learned that the Texas Rangers had called up Branford, CT native and former UConn Huskies third baseman Mike Olt from Double-A.
Rangers manager Ron Washington wasted no time putting Olt in the Rangers lineup as he is batting eighth and playing first base. Well, Olt didn't have to wait long for his first MLB hit as he singled off of Los Angeles Angels of...
Matt Harrison gave the beleaguered Texas pitching staff a strong start, Mitch Moreland hit a three-run homer and the Rangers defeated the Kansas City Royals 5-3 on Friday night.
The Rangers starters had allowed at least six runs in the previous four games, but Harrison (13-6) held the Royals to two runs and eight hits in 6 2-3 innings. Harrison, who went 1-3 in July, walked three...
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- Josh Hamilton drove in four runs and the Rangers offense bailed out Ryan Dempster in his Texas debut in a 15-9 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday night.
The Rangers broke an 8-8 tie after six innings when they scored four runs in the seventh, including Hamilton's two-run double, and added three in the eighth.
Dempster allowed eight runs...
Elvis Andrus had a game-ending two-run single in the 10th inning, and the Texas Rangers rallied from six runs down to beat the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday night.
The Rangers trailed 7-1 in the fifth and then 10-7 after the Angels scored three in the top of the 10th.
Albert Pujols connected twice for his second straight multihomer game. His second homer, a two-run shot in the...

There is a huge battle in the American League West.
The Texas Rangers and the Los Angeles Angels.
This division is heating up.
Lets start off with the Texas Rangers.
The Texas Rangers might look like they are in control of the AL West division, but the Los Angeles Angels are right on their tails. The Rangers are sitting on a very good record...
ARLINGTON, Texas The Rangers barely beat the deadline on a trade for longtime Cubs pitcher Ryan Dempster on Tuesday. Unfortunately, he couldn't make it to the mound in time for first pitch against the Los Angeles Angels.
The Rangers weren't as good as their record reflected heading into the All-Star break, and they've illustrated that with a couple weeks of bad baseball...
