After having traded Ian Kinsler to the Tigers for Prince Fielder and seeing talented youngster Jurickson Profar shelved with a shoulder injury, the Rangers have gotten pretty terrible production out of second base. They'll now to turn to highly-touted prospect -- and bearer of one of baseball's best names -- Rougned Odor. The club announced the move Thursday afternoon along with a series of roster moves. Odor is a 20-year-old Venezuelan who started the season in Double-A. He hit .279/.314/.450 with six homers, 17 RBI and six stolen bases in 32 games for Double-A Frisco. Last season, with his time split between High-A (100 games) and Double-A (30 games), he hit .305/.365/.474 with 41 doubles, 11 homers, 78 RBI and 32 stolen bases. Odor entered the season as a top-40 prospect, per Baseball Prospectus, but he's only had 282 plate appearances above Class A and all of those came in Double-A. He's skipping Triple-A and is penciled into the Rangers lineup for Thursday nig...

Rangers' Moreland feels good after pitching debut

ARLINGTON, Texas -- The best news Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington got out of Mitch Moreland's pitching performance game Wednesday afternoon.      That's because Moreland came to Globe Life Park and his left arm wasn't sore after pitching a perfect inning Tuesday night in an otherwise abysmal 12-1 loss to Colorado. Washington's biggest concern in letting a...

Texas Rangers Call-up Veteran Pitcher Scott Baker

J. Meric/Getty Images North America On Wednesday, the Texas Rangers added veteran right-hander Scott Baker to an already depleted bullpen. Baker, 32, has been a major league starter his entire career but has only seen three Major League starts since 2012 after undergoing Tommy John Surgery while playing with the Chicago Cubs. Baker was added at the end of Spring Training on a minor...

Rangers ineptitude against Colorado continues

ARLINGTON, Texas - Colby Lewis had one solution for the Texas Rangers to get out of the funk that's been associated with their matchups against the Colorado Rockies. "I think Colorado just needs to leave town," said Lewis. The Rangers better hope it's that easy. Wednesday night the Rockies pummeled the Rangers again, this time to the tune of a 9-2 beating. Since...

WATCH: Yu Darvish's perfect game ruined by routine fly ball

Yu Darvish lost a perfect game with two outs in the top of the 7th inning of his start against the Boston Red Sox on Friday night when a fly ball to right by David Ortiz fell between Alex Rios and Rougned Odor. The Rangers were employing a shift against the pull-hitting Ortiz, who hit […]

Yu Darvish Loses Perfect Game When Outfield Brain Farts On Routine Pop Fly

Yu Darvish has every right to be mad at his outfielders. Here he was going in to the seventh inning with a perfect game on the line and what do they do? They have a massive brain fart and forget how to field a routine fly ball.Apparently no one called for it.@SBNationGIF/TwitterBig Papi was more than happy to take his base on the play, but that wouldn't be the last Darvish would...

Yu Darvish Near-Perfect For Rangers While Baffling Red Sox’s Offense

Texas Rangers starter Yu Darvish was even better than advertised against the Boston Red Sox. The Red Sox’s offense simply didn’t have answer for the 27-year-old’s impressive...

Rangers End Rough Week with MLB-leading 7th Shutout

Getty Images As the mid-week split series against the Colorado Rockies has come to a close, it seems that the Ranger’s pitching woes have finally caught up with them. After a start to a season that saw young Martin Perez dazzle hitters at the plate and converted set-up man Robbie Ross prove he deserved a rotation spot, things have started to cool off for the Rangers. Neftali Feliz...

Red Sox, Rangers Set To Square Off In Potential Postseason Preview

Somehow the Texas Rangers and Red Sox have never played a postseason series before — partly because the Rangers’ first playoff appearance wasn’t until 1996. So, the only way Boston sees the Rangers before next season after this weekend’s three-game set at Globe Life Park in Arlington would be this October. It’s a distinct possibility. The Rangers missed the playoffs last...

Yu Darvish’s Gem Overshadows Red Sox’s Real Issue In Loss To Rangers

Texas Rangers starter Yu Darvish gave everyone something to talk about with his near-perfect performance against the Boston Red Sox on Friday. It’s a good thing for Clay Buchholz. The Red Sox’s inability to solve Darvish — he had a no-hitter broken up with two outs in the ninth inning — overshadowed the more important and more discouraging aspect of Boston’s 8-0 loss. Buchholz...

The Boston Red Sox will begin a three-game series with the Texas Rangers on Friday night, and their first test is a difficult one against star pitcher Yu Darvish. Perfection is overrated … right?

12 Ks 126 pitches 8.2 innings 0 ER Those are Yu Darvish’s stats for the night. On any other night, that would be outstanding.  But tonight it’s a little bit of a letdown. Darvish had something special cooking through the first six innings.  Eighteen batters faced.  Eighteen outs logged.  Then … disaster.  Or at least […]
