Texas Rangers ace Yu Darvish carried a perfect game into the bottom of the sixth inning and a no-hiiter into the eighth when Houston catcher Carlos Corporan ripped an outside fastball for a home run but won his 12th game of the season striking out 15. Darvish and closer Joe Nathan combined on a one hitter and the Rangers finished their 10 game road trip with a 9-1 record. Darvish retired the 17 batters he faced before walking Jonathan Villar on six pitches to break up the perfect game bid and became the first pitcher in the majors this season to hit the 200-strikeout mark, and tied Nolan Ryan for the quickest pitcher in franchise history to accomplish that feat in 23 starts. The Rangers got a pair of two-out RBI hits by Beltre and A.J. Pierzynski in the first inning for a 2-0 lead, which proved to be the only runs the Rangers scored on the day.

Darvish practicing throwing left-handed

ARLINGTON, Texas Major league hitters don't want to hear this, but Rangers pitcher Yu Darvish has another weapon in his bag of tricks: He can pitch left-handed. Darvish was caught throwing southpaw style by MLB.com's camera prior to Tuesday's game against Milwaukee. Your browser does not support iframes. Back in spring training of 2012, when Darvish first arrived...

Did Umpire Blow Call In Yu Darvish Perfect Game Bid?(Video)

Another example of just what a ‘joy’ the element of human error is. Rangers ace Yu Darvish was making a bid for history in Monday’s game versus the Astros. In the bottom of the 6th, looking for his 12th strikeout of the game against Jonathan Villar with two outs, Darvish threw a low breaking ball, which he thought was good enough to be strike 3. Both Darvish and catch AJ...

Yu Darvish Needs To Stick To Throwing Right-Handed

I understand that switching hands is all the rage today in pro sports, but Yu Darvish needs to stick to tossing a ball with his right hand. Check out the fairly impressive attempts by Yu Darvish who was spotted warming up both arms, and you may think he could actually do it. We agree that it is plausible, but we advise against it. Yu Darvish Can Switch-Pitch, Dogs And Cats Living Together, Mass Hysteria

Texas Rangers pitcher Yu Darvish has five 14-strikeout games this season. The rest of Major League Baseball — all of it — combines for three 14-strikeout games. On Monday afternoon, Yu carried a perfect game against the Astros into the sixth, got screwed on a call, then lost his chance at a no-hitter in the 8th. He had 15 strikeouts in that game. And if that’s not enough,...

GIF: Yu Darvish strikes out 15 Astros in 2-1 victory

Tweet   Yu Darvish pitching against the Houston Astros is unfair. We saw evidence of this during the 2013 season’s first game when he took a no-hitter into the ninth inning, losing it with just one out to go. That night he had 14 strikeouts during his 8.2 innings of work. Monday, it was the […]

GIFs: Yu Darvish loses potential perfect game on controversial call, AJ Pierzynski tossed

Yu Darvish thought he retired his 18th consecutive Astros batter, but the umpire had another idea, making this controversial call during the perfect game bid.

Daily SP Rankings: Monday, August 12

Yu Darvish is projected to go 6 2/3 innings in tonight’s start against the Astros, yet he’s projected for a robust 10 Ks and is far and away the day’s best option. Ricky Nolasco is the day’s other notable pitching option, one that’s probably readily available on free agency in most leagues (and whom I added myself for today).Take a look at today’s ratings, and as always...

Rangers C Pierzynski ejected during Darvish's gem

Texas catcher A.J. Pierzynski has been ejected from Monday's game against Houston for arguing a call during Yu Darvish's bid for a perfect game. Pierzynski was tossed in the sixth inning with Texas ahead 2-0. Darvish had not allowed a runner when he threw a 2-2 breaking ball with two outs to Jonathan Villar. Darvish began walking off the mound and Pierzynski started heading...

Darvish, Nathan combine for one-hitter in Rangers’ 2-1 victory over Astros

Yu Darvish saw Marwin Gonzalez spoil his perfect game bid after retiring the first 26 batters on April 2. He didn’t get that close to perfection again against the Astros on Monday afternoon but was five outs away from throwing the Rangers’ sixth no-hitter in club history. This time though it was Carlos Corporan who broke up the no-hit bid with a solo homer in the eighth inning...
