It’s difficult to be a Seattle sports fan and live in New York. I’ll never forget 2009, when the Yankees won their 27th World Series Championship and Pay-rod got his first (and hopefully last) ring. Barf. There was also Super Bowl XLVI in 2011 when the Giants won their fourth championship. Ho-hum, yet another title.
Then last year, I went to my first game at Yankee Stadium – Mariners vs. Yankees of course – only to discover on the subway ride up to the Bronx that yet another beloved ex-Mariner, Raul Ibañez, was wearing the pinstripes! My Yankee-loving friends didn’t make things better with their “Rauuuul” chants, which became more like taunts as Ibañez went 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs – salt in the wound of another Yankee victory over the Ms, 6-2.
