Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Evan Longoria told reporters,
including Marc Topkin of The Tampa Bay Times, that his “leg is ready” and he’s
fully recovered from surgery in November on his left hamstring.
Longoria’s hamstring injury caused him to miss more than
half of the 2012 season, but he said last week that he’s recovered extremely
well and will be at Rays’ camp when pitchers and catchers report on Feb. 12.
Still, the Rays have said that they’ll take things slow with
Longoria, as they don’t want to aggravate the hamstring injury. Topkin says you
can expect Tampa Bay to keep Longoria out of early spring training action as a
precautionary measure.
Longoria ensured he will likely be a member of the Rays for
life last year, and Tampa Bay is excited to get the 27-year-old
face-of-the-franchise back at full-go in 2013. In the games he was able to play
in last season he hit .280/369/.527 with 14 doubles and 17 home runs.
