B.J. Upton hit a tiebreaking two-run double, Matt Moore won for the first time after losing four straight decisions and the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Baltimore Orioles 8-4 on Sunday.
Upton gave the Rays a 4-2 lead with a two-out hit off Jake Arrieta (2-7) in the fifth. Arrieta walked three during the inning.
Moore (2-5) allowed two runs and seven hits over six innings. The left-hander had four losses in five starts since beating Seattle on May 1.
Matt Wieters and Mark Reynolds homered for the Orioles, who have lost seven of eight. Arrieta, 0-5 over his last six starts, gave up four runs, two hits and four walks in 4 2-3 innings.
The Rays extended the lead to 8-2 during a four-run sixth, aided by a pair of Baltimore errors.
Wieters made an errant throw from behind the plate attempting to pick off Ben Zobrist at third. After Elliot Johnson hit an RBI single, another run scored when third baseman Steve Tolleson misplayed Jose Molina's grounder. Carlos Pena added a sacrifice fly.
Tampa Bay took a 2-1 lead in the fourth when Matt Joyce drove in Pena with a sacrifice fly. Upton also scored from second on the play when Baltimore center fielder Adam Jones made a bad throw attempting to get Upton out at third.
Reynolds tied it at 2 on an RBI single in the fifth. He also had an eighth-inning solo shot.
Wieters put the Orioles up 1-0 on a second-inning leadoff homer. Baltimore then failed to score any additional runs despite having two on with no outs. Steve Pearce hit a fly ball and both Tolleson and Robert Andino struck out.
Wieters also had a run-scoring hit in the ninth.

ST. PETERSBURG Considering how cold their bats have been at home lately, it looked for a while Sunday as if the only thing the Tampa Bay Rays would be hitting was the road. And judging by the way things were going, they might have swung and missed.
But the offense came alive just enough for the Rays to head north now with a hotter hand, holding onto first place in the AL East once...
The Rays selected Clemson third baseman Richie Shaffer with the 25th pick in the draft Monday. Tampa Bay hopes he'll turns out to be as good as the only other third baseman the organization has chosen in the first round, Evan Longoria. As a junior this spring, Shaffer, a 6-foot-3, 205-pound left-handed hitter, posted a .336 batting average with 10 home runs and 46 RBI. He...
The Baltimore Orioles called up right-handed pitcher Steve Johnson from Class AAA Norfolk, the team announced Sunday. Johnson, who was acquired two seasons ago from the Los Angeles Dodgers, has a 1-3 record in eight games with a 2.62 ERA. Left-hander Zach Britton, who has a left shoulder injury, was moved from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list to open a spot...
Tests on Baltimore Orioles center fielder Adam Jones’ hands and wrists came back negative Monday. Jones had an MRI in Florida during an off day for the Orioles that showed contusions but no other damage. As a result, the Orioles said via Twitter that he will be able to continue playing when Baltimore starts a series Tuesday night in Boston. Jones also confirmed via Twitter...
It was widely assumed that the Baltimore Orioles would select a college pitcher with the fourth selection of Monday's draft. That they did. Baltimore chose right-hander Kevin Gausman, a polished sophomore from LSU, after selecting star high school right-hander Dylan Bundy in 2011. "Kevin Gausman is one of the premier power pitchers in all of college baseball,"...

Yet another move was made by the Orioles on Saturday. They DFA'ed Bill Hall and got an older minor leaguer that seems to be doing decent in Triple-A this season, plus has some major league experience. Obviously, the Orioles need depth on the big league roster with the multitude of injuries, especially the loss of Nick Markakis (plus Nolan Reimold) ... and players who could...
After eight years of hospital trips and dozens of medications, 10-year-old Lindsey Duquette is having a life-changing operation on Monday. The surgery will give her a new kidney and hopefully a new lease on life, freeing her up from the ravages of a disease called Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis. The donor? Her father, Jim Duquette, 46, an MLB analyst and Sirius radio host who...
In this edition of Rays Roundup: Despite a team-wide slump at the plate the Rays are still in first in the AL East, Ben Zobrist finally gets an extra-base hit and the team is on-pace to set team-record for errors. All of that and more inside.
The Baltimore Orioles have acquired outfielder-first baseman Steve Pearce from the New York Yankees for cash.
The deal was announced Saturday before Baltimore played at Tampa Bay on Saturday night.
The 29-year-old Pearce was hitting .321 with 11 home runs and 30 RBIs for the Yankees' Triple-A team. He played parts of five seasons with Pittsburgh through last year and hit .232...
It has been a struggle for the Baltimore Orioles the past two weeks, and on Sunday they lost again to the Tampa Bay Rays, 8-4. They have fallen out of first place - again - and are a game behind the Rays at 30-24.
Sadly, the Orioles have lost nine out of twelve series and have dropped four consecutive series.
Jake Arrieta – who started on the mound Sunday for Baltimore – has...
Returning home was the fix the Blue Rocks needed to get back to their winning ways, beating the Frederick Keys (Baltimore) 2 games Out of 3. Friday night's game was rained out so that set up a twilight doubleheader starting at 5:05pm Saturday. Doubleheaders in the minors mean two 7 inning games and with the pitching in the Carolina League don't come too late cause you might...
The Baltimore Orioles have cooled off considerably following their impressive start. Now they have the extremely difficult task of facing the Boston Red Sox's Jon Lester, who will be trying to maintain his perfect career record against the Orioles on Tuesday night.
