Pro Sports Daily:
The Tampa Bay Rays baseball's hottest team don't expect to make any major moves before Wednesday's trade deadline.
"We are always looking to improve and between now and Wednesday we're going to do everything we can to do that" executive vice president Andrew Friedman told TampaBay.com. "But I can't overstate our confidence in the team that we have. This is a tremendous group of guys and the worst thing we can do is to feel pressure to make a move just for its own sake."
The American League East-leading Rays are 24-5 since June 23 when they were in last place. Their 62 wins are tied for best in the majors.

The Rays may not wait for RHP Alex Cobb to come back to bump RHP Roberto Hernandez from the rotation.
Manager Joe Maddon confirmed Sunday what has seemed obvious that the Rays are "considering" going to a four-man rotation.
The primary reason is that even with a makeup game tonight in Boston they have four days off in an upcoming 12-day stretch.
The secondary reason...
BOSTON — Is it fair to call James Loney‘s 2013 campaign a breakout season?
Usually that’s the kind of terminology that’s reserved for a young player still in his first few seasons, but for Loney, it’s happening at age 29. During his first two partial seasons in Major League Baseball with the Dodgers, Loney had a .915 OPS in nearly 450 at-bats. After that, however, he struggled...
The Rays have been very active on Twitter today.
First, Tampa Bay’s official Twitter account tweeted out an ad for a “steel alloy phone with Kevlar cord,” that would need to be installed by Sept. 10. It was a playful shot towards the Red Sox and David Ortiz after Big Papi smashed a telephone with his bat on Saturday.
Now, Rays ace David Price is having some fun on Twitter at...
In a move to shore up an inconsistent bullpen for an expected playoff run, the Tampa Bay Rays have acquired right-handed reliever Jesse Crain from the Chicago White Sox for a player to be named later or cash considerations. Crain, who had been named to the 2013 American League All-Star Team on the strength of a 0.74 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, and 46 strikeouts in 36.1 innings, hit the disabled...
Hideki Matsui has re-signed with the New York Yankees and retired with his first major league team.
The 2009 World Series MVP signed a minor league contract Sunday in front of dozens of Japanese and American media and New York general manager Brian Cashman and assistant GM Jean Afterman.
The 39-year-old Matsui then put his signature to his official Major League Baseball retirement...
Everyone has Wil Myers pegged as the next big thing. I don’t know, I’m lukewarm on the guy. He’s going to be a serviceable big league player who has a long and productive career. But I’m not sure he’s ticketed to be a star.
However, there was nothing lukewarm about his past week in the game.
Playing in games 29 through 33 in his big league career, Myers amassed a .455/...
David Ortiz went full-on Big Papi on a dugout telephone on Saturday after he struck out. The Tampa Bay Rays Twitter account then trolled Ortiz in epic fashion.
The competitive nature of one of the American League East’s hottest rivalries extended beyond the playing field on Monday night, as the Red Sox and Rays continued to talk trash on Twitter after the final out.
Following the Rays 2-1 win against the Sox, a win that helped them overtake the Sox and secure a half-game lead in the AL East, the Rays official Twitter account threw a...
Hideki Matsui did great things for the New York Yankees, so it’s only right that he retired as one. In 11 seasons with the Bronx Bombers, Matsui had a line of .282/.360/.462 with 175 home runs.

Monday night’s 2-1 Tampa Bay Rays victory over the Boston Red Sox game was filled with controversy and bad blood. In the video below you can see the blown call that got Red Sox manager John Farrell tossed from the game.
The official Twitter accounts of the Red Sox and Rays took shots at each other following the game:
Don't worry @raysbaseball we look forward to seeing you...
The Tampa Bay Rays have acquired Chicago White Sox reliever Jesse Crain for cash considerations or a player to be named later. Brandon Gomes has been moved to the 60-day DL to accommodate the move. Reports began to circulate this morning about Crain being moved , with Tamp Bay being one of the suitors.
White Sox GM Rick Hahn announced the trade and issued the following statement...
After the requisite leaping chest bumps by the starting pitchers near the mound Chris Archer and David Price wrapped their arms around each other.
“I’m just following your lead” Archer said.
And Price said … nothing.
“He was just like (silent) with a big smile on his face” Archer said.
There were plenty of smiles and hugs and hearty handshakes Saturday after Archer...
The Rays series comes to a close Sunday with Phil Hughes (4-9, 4.33 ERA) taking on Matt Moore (14-3, 3.17 ERA). Hughes was pulled after just 80 pitches on July 23 versus the Rangers, he allowed three runs (all unearned) over 5 2/3 innings in a no decision. He has been quite inconsistent this season but pitched well against the Rays on April 23.
Moore picked up his 14th win of the...
Chris Archer threw a two-hitter for his second shutout in three starts, outpitching Ivan Nova and leading the Tampa Bay Rays to a 1-0 victory over the New York Yankees on Saturday
Kelly Johnson had an RBI single off Nova (4-4) in the sixth to help the AL East-leading Rays improve to 24-5 since June 23, when they were in last place.
Tampa Bay manager Joe Maddon said before the game...
