Tampa Bay Rays closer Kyle Farnsworth, who gave up two homers in the ninth inning Saturday, was diagnosed with elbow tenderness after the game.
Farnsworth came on to protect a 5-3 lead over Boston but gave up consecutive homers to Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Jacoby Ellsbury. He retired just one batter while surrendering another hit and walking a batter.
It was the second straight blown save for Farnsworth, who also allowed a homer to Ian Kinsler of Texas in the ninth inning Wednesday. He is expected to be given a couple of days rest.
Farnsworth is 5-1 with a 2.32 ERA and 23 saves in 29 opportunities this season.
