Marc Topkin of the St. Pete Times is reporting on what a great team player C Dioner Navarro is. The Rays are using minor league catcher Nevin Ashley to work out with the team or to be available if the club needs another catcher. The reason? Dioner Navarro decided to go home and not hang around for the playoffs since he was left off the post-season roster. What a guy. Way to support the team. Navarro played only 48 games with the Rays this season and spent the majority of the year in the minors. Navarro struggled at the plate, hitting only .194, 1 HR and only 7 RBI’s. The addition of Kelly Shoppach and the emergence of John Jaso made Navarro expendable. Never the less, you would have thought that he would have wanted to stick around and be around his former teammates for the playoffs. Guess not.
