ST. PETERSBURG, FL—The Tampa Bay Rays have acquired right-handed relief pitcher Jesse Crain from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for players to be named later or cash considerations. Crain has been added to the Rays 40-man roster but kept on the 15-day disabled list due to his right shoulder strain.  To make room on the 40-man roster, the Rays have transferred Brandon Gomes (shoulder) to the 60-day disabled list. Crain, 32, was named a 2013 American League All-Star after posting a 0.74 ERA (36.2-IP, 3-ER) with 46 strikeouts in 38 appearances during the first half.  At the time he was placed on the disabled list (July 3; retroactive to June 30), he led AL relievers in ERA and ranked second with 19 holds.  He has only allowed one earned run over his last 32 appearances which included a White Sox record 29 consecutive scoreless appearances from April 17-June 22. A 10-year veteran, Crain has spent time with the Minnesota Twins (2004-10) and White Sox (2011-13).  He owns a career 45-30 record with a 3.05 ERA in 532 relief appearances.  Since he joined the White Sox in 2011, his 2.10 ERA ranks eighth-lowest among major league relievers.  He has a 2.53 ERA (10.2-IP, 3-ER) in 14 career games at Tropicana Field.
