It was beard night at Fenway, where fans could get into Fenway Park for $1 either wearing a fake beard or growing a real one. My opinion? Far too many fake beards showed up. I would have demanded at least a two week beard if I was running things. That's commitment.
David Ortiz, who is a rebel and has a nicely trimed beard (kidding), got things started early with a two-run shot to right field putting the Sox ahead of the Birds 2-0. Mike Napoli, who's cooled of just a tad as of late, delievered an absolute monster homer to dead center later in the 6th to tie the game back up 3-3. The rest of the night was pretty frustrating for the bats. They managed 15 hits, but only three runs...no runs after six innings.
Jake Peavy was pretty electric tonight. Besides the 5th and 6th innings, his stuff was clearly getting a final fine tuning for the postseason. The only concern was allow three deep hits and allowing the Orioles to tie it 3-3. Peavy's line for the night: 7 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 8 K on 113 pitches.
The Sox try again tonight to clinch their first playoff birth since 2009 tonight against the Orioles. This will be the final game of the season for the Orioles at Fenway Park. John Lackey takes the mound for the home team, while Chris Tillman counters for the O's. First pitch is at 7:10pm. No fake beards allowed.
