It looked like the same formula as every game recently for the Red Sox. 4-2 going into the 8th...let's just try to hang on to this thing.

And then the offense showed up.

Nick Punto pinch-hit for Felix Doubront and doubled, and the Sox never looked back. The next four Sox batters got hits, and the fifth was hit by a pitch. When all was said and done, six runs were in and the Sox were on their way to a 10-2 win.

Doubront was strong yet again, striking out nine over seven innings. His two runs came off just three hits and a walk. No complaints here.

The big story was of course the offense, which had only scored more than four runs once in the last six games. Scott Podsednik, Dustin Pedroia, Adrian Gonzalez, David Ortiz, Mike Aviles, and Punto (who came up again later in the 8th) all had multi-hit games, with the Sox collecting 14 total.

They pulled even with the Blue Jays for a tie for 4th place in the division, and are 4.5 games out of 3rd.

Felix Doubront Regains Confidence in Dominant Performance Against Marlins (Video)

The typical line with pitchers is "turning the page," meaning that as soon as they step off the mound, no matter how bad their previous outing was, it's already gone from their memory. Well, Felix Doubront isn't most pitchers, as the 24-year-old used the disappointment of his last start -- in which he lasted just four innings and gave up six runs -- as motivation...

Red Sox 10, Marlins 2

Felix Doubront allowed only three hits while pitching a career-high seven innings, and the Boston Red Sox beat the reeling Miami Marlins 10-2 Wednesday night. Doubront (7-3), coming off the worst start of his career, retired 16 in a row and took a no-hitter into the sixth inning. He struck out nine and allowed two runs. The left-hander hadn't pitched more than 6 1-3 innings...

MIAMI -- Felix Doubront followed his worst start of the season with his best. Doubront pitched seven strong innings, David Ortiz homered and drove in three runs, and the Boston Red Sox beat the Miami Marlins 10-2 Wednesday. Doubront (7-3) took a no-hitter into the sixth inning before Jose Reyes homered to left with two outs. "Reyes made me look to the scoreboard, that...

Red Sox Offense Comes to Life With 'Double-Digit Drubbing' to Complement Great Pitching (Video)

The Red Sox finally put it all together in this one. Instead of having a good pitching performance and lackluster hitting, or a combination of bad pitching and good hitting, the Sox got a lot of both to beat the Miami Marlins with ease. Felix Doubront flirted with a no-hitter but ultimately a win is just good enough for him, along with some help from the heart of the Red Sox lineup...

Sox Offense - It's Alive!!!

The Red Sox got a 14-hit outburst from the offense, and 7 innings of 3-hit, 2-run pitching from starter Felix Doubront en route to a 10-2 win over the Miami Marlins. The top four hitters in the Boston lineup were lethal - each had at least 2 hits including the 15th home run of the season for David Ortiz who started the game at first base. Adrian Gonzalez, who started in right...

Strong pitching keys Sox series win in Miami

Felix Doubront flirted with a no hitter in Wednesday’s win After the game Monday night, the city of Boston could no longer take to losing to Miami. They were just getting over an extremely disappointing one in basketball to the Miami Heat and the Boston Red Sox had a chance to head down to South Beach and take it to the Miami Marlins. Then after Monday night’s loss, enough was...

Doubront leads Red Sox to second straight win

After losing five straight games the Red Sox have bounced back with wins on back-to-back nights after crushing the Marlins 10-2 Wednesday night. Felix Doubront took a no-hitter into the sixth inning, where it was snapped by a Jose Reyes solo home run, but even so Doubront pitched possibly his best game of the year. He allowed just two runs on three hits, while striking out nine....

Red Sox Live Blog: Offense Looks to Break Out Against Ricky Nolasco, Miami Marlins

8 a.m.: Up until his last start, Felix Doubront (6-3, 4.34 ERA) was considered the rock of the Red Sox' rotation, one of the team's only consistencies in an inconsistent season. However, taking on the Washington Nationals last Friday, Doubront lasted only four innings, giving up eight hits and six earned runs to take his third loss of the season in easily his worst effort...

Red Sox News & Notes - 6/14

Before last night's game against the Miami Marlins, the Boston Red Sox had scored 12 runs in their past five games. Part of that was the good pitching from their opponents, the other part the bats were slumping. Hopefully after pounding out 14 hits in a 10-2 win, the bats are now alive. As they say hitting is contagious. But before we talk about the offense from last night...

BoSox, Marlins Look to Turn the Tide

Two teams that haven’t been too successful winning games or making money against the MLB odds recently finish off a nonetheless interesting interleague series as the Boston Red Sox and Miami Marlins go at it Tuesday and Wednesday at Marlins Park. Boston, as we pointed out in a “Free MLB Picks” piece at SBRForum.com, came into this series having just gotten swept three games...

Red Sox Pitching Success Keeping Offense Afloat Through Struggles (Video)

Clay Buchholz impressed yet again on Tuesday night, tossing seven strong innings and willing the Red Sox to their first win in five games. Buchholz, Felix Doubront and other members of the Boston pitching brigade have proven pretty consistent as of late. And it looks like the Red Sox offense might need to take a page out of their book given their recent sun-scoring troubles. Check...
