Colorado denied Boston a chance at 100 wins with an 8-3 win at Coors Field.
Tyler Chatwood shut down the Sox, giving up just three hits (and a walk) over seven innings. The Sox roughed up the Rockies bullpen a little, with Jarrod Saltalamacchia homering in the 9th, but overall the offense just wasn't there tonight.
Meanwhile, the pitching wasn't there either. John Lackey surrendered four runs over six innings, three of which coming from home runs. While Lackey has been really good this year, that has been his Achilles heel -- he's given up 26 on the year, tied for 8th most (with Ryan Dempster) in the AL.
The bullpen wasn't much better, giving up four more runs over two innings.
I was looking through the box score trying to find an interesting stat to include for a recap of such a blah game, and I came across this: Will Middlebrooks hit his 18th double tonight. Doesn't that seem amazingly high for a guy who was so bad, then was sent down for much of the year?
In wild card watch, the Rays, Rangers, and Indians all won. In AL playoff home field watch (doesn't roll off the tongue like "wild card watch"), the A's are currently losing 3-0 to LA, but you can't count out Oakland this year.
The Red Sox dropped to 95-63 on the year, securing a win total in the double digits. For shame! What a wasted year!
