(AP Photo/Ben Margot)            Yes, Jonny, that was the second straight game lost by the Sox. That was Jonny Gomes arguing with home plate Umpire, Todd Tichenor, that he did call time out in time (which he didn't), before he struck out in the 9th. Gomes was promptly ejected from the game not long after the argument began. It all started to downhill way before that, leading to the Sox 3-2 loss in 11 frames. Sox' rookie starter, Brandon Workman did all he could (and more) through the first 6 innings, throwing no-hit ball over that time. The Sox finally rewarded him some run support in the sixth when Pedey drove Ellsbury in on a single, and again in the 7th when Brock Holt singled in Carp to give the Sox a 2-0 lead. Now, I said Workman did all he could through six. The 7th was a different story. Coco Crisp broke up the no-no bid with a single in the 7th, and just two batters later, Josh Donaldson, who I was afraid of, put the A's on the board with a 2-run homer, ending Workman's day. It stayed tied up at 2 until the bottom of the 11th, when, you guessed it, Josh Donaldson singled in Derek Norris to walk off with the victory and take the series from the Sox. Dammit!! At least the Sox will go into the All-Star break still atop the AL East. It is safe to say they are clinging to that lead as the red-hot Rays are only 2.5 back. Hopefully the break will cool the Rays down. Box Score
