Four Red Sox pitchers combined for a 2-0 shutout of the Tampa Bay Rays tonight at the Trop. KKKKKKKKKKKKKKoji Uehara came in for a rare four-out save, but what wasn't rare was his dismantling of the Rays lineup. Up 2-0 in the 8th, John Farrell hoped to get a clean inning out of Junichi Tazawa, but a two-out double by Yunel Escobar caused him to change his plan. He went to Koji early and Koji promptly retired Wil Myers to end the inning. The 9th went 1-2-3 with the final two batters striking out. Uehara needed just 13 pitches to retire the four hitters and has now sent down 31 straight batters. We're well into "unbelievable" territory with Koji. Not to be overlooked is tonight's starter, Clay Buchholz. Yes, that guy! Buchholz looked sharp in his first start back from his three-month day-to-day injury. His fastball was low 90s -- I saw it hit 93 once or twice on the NESN gun -- but effective. Perhaps most importantly, he was able to be efficient on his pitch limit of 75-80 pitches, finishing five frames before being removed. Nothing but positives to report from his outing, which we really need looking ahead. Naturally, with David Price on the other hill, the game wasn't easy. Price was nearly untouchable save for the 5th inning. After four perfect innings, Price ran into trouble immediately in the 5th, giving up a leadoff double to Mike Napoli and a single to Jonny Gomes, scoring Nap. After Gomes advanced to second on the throw home, Daniel Nava bunted him to 3rd base and Jarrod Saltalamacchia drove him in with a sacrifice fly. It says something about how important the game was to Farrell -- and how intimidating Price is -- that Farrell chose to call for two sacrifices that early to get the run. Other than that, Price was dominant, going eight innings and allowing just those two hits and no walks. The Sox made some noise in the 9th but weren't able to score. Boston's division lead is now 8.5, with a magic number of 10.  Box score
