Tonight just wasn't the Red Sox night. Alexei Ramirez and Phil Humber led the way for the White Sox to win their second straight in Fenway, 10-7.
Ramirez went 4-for-5 and Humber was throwing pretty well against the Red Sox, only giving up a home run to Jason Varitek through seven innings. He went out for the eighth and that's when it got interesting.Humber gave up hits to Josh Reddick, Drew Sutton, and Kevin Youkilis. He was relieved by Will Ohman and all Ohman does was give David Ortiz a nice ball to take over the Monster for a three run bomb. The good luck continued in the ninth as Reddick and Sutton drove in two more runs to inch the Sox closer but Adrian Gonzalez got caught looking at a third strike to end any hopes of a comeback.
Alfredo Aceves got roughed up against this White Sox offense, giving up eight earned runs in just five innings pitched. This is looking to be his last start (for now) as John Lackey pitched well in his rehab start in Pawtucket (more on that below). Terry Francona said in his post-game conference that Lackey will start Sunday vs Oakland.
Jason Varitek had one of his best hitting days of the season, going 3-for-4 with the aforementioned home run.
This was just another disappointing game as the Red Sox can't figure out Chicago's starters. They've lost three straight to end what has been a remarkable May and finish the month 19-10.
