Boston Red Sox
Kansas City Royals
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Will Middlebrooks hit two home runs and drove in five runs, while Felix Doubront gave the Boston Red Sox what they needed most -- innings from the starting pitcher -- in an 11-5 victory Monday night over the Kansas City Royals. Doubront (2-1) went 6 1/3 innings, the longest outing of his career, to save an overworked Red Sox bullpen. He yielded five runs, four earned, on seven hits and three walks to pick up the victory. Boston had lost 9-6 to Baltimore in a 17-inning game Sunday. After Doubront walked Alex Gordon with the bases loaded in the seventh to cut Boston's lead to 7-5, Vicente Padilla replaced Doubront and coaxed Billy Butler to ground into an inning-ending double play. Padilla held the Royals scoreless for 2 2/3 innings to pick up his first save. Middlebrooks, who hit a grand slam Sunday, homered with David Ortiz and Adrian Gonzalez aboard in the Red Sox four-run first. Middlebrooks also hit a two-run homer off the left field foul pole in t...
BEST OF MAXIM
I know I’m not the only one to breathe a sigh of relief after hearing what Will Middlebrooks said about his hamrstring, “It’s nothing serious. It’s not a big deal, it was just a precautionary thing coming out of the game, so hopefully I’ll be back in there Wednesday. It was just a type of cramping, tightness in the hamstring, so we really didn’t want to mess with it...
Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.
In the last two days, Middlebrooks has three homers and nine RBI. He's hit safely in each of the first four games he's played in the majors and has at least one extra-base hit in all four, something...
KANSAS CITY, Mo. –– The major league experience is only getting better for Will Middlebrooks. A day after blasting his first career home run –– a grand slam at that –– the Red Sox third baseman returned fire in Monday's 11-5 win over the Royals, blasting two homers and five RBIs to highlight his first multi-homer game. "I'm really comfortable up [at the plate...
Will Middlebrooks just keeps raking against major league pitching. Pretty soon they might need to give him a more permanent jersey number. For now, he's keeping the legacy of the No. 64 alive with his dominance of the big leagues through four games. That's the same number Dustin Pedroia wore when he broke into the bigs, and since he turned out pretty well, we've got our...
Will Middlebrooks (credits below) Will Middlebrooks made a serious splash for the Red Sox, as he sent two out of the ballpark and racked up five RBI's going 3 for 5 from the plate in Boston's 11-5 win over the Royals.Carlos Zambrano pitched an absolute gem in the Marlins win over the Astors, going nine innings, striking out nine batters and giving up just three hits on the...
Will Middlebrooks was sitting in front of his locker, paying no attention to the horde of reporters heading his way, when Red Sox ace Jon Lester gave him fair warning.
''Here they come,'' Lester said. ''Not like you didn't have a good game or anything.''
The rookie third baseman homered down each of the lines Monday night, pacing a Boston attack...
Will Middlebrooks is absolutely on fire right now. His third base counterpart in this series, however, isn't too shabby himself. In fact, there's a lot of promising talent at the position when surveying the entirety of the major leagues. Mike Moustakas, the Royals third baseman, was the second overall pick of the 2007 draft and has been closely tracked throughout his pro...
When Will Middlebrooks was first called up to the majors late last week, many thought it would be just a temporary move. But it appears that the 23-year-old third baseman may be carving out a permanent spot in Boston. Kevin Youkilis, the Red Sox everyday third baseman for the past seven season, is still anticipated to be the starter when he returns from lingering stiffness in his...
Sunday's game against the Baltimore Orioles offered plenty that fans don't usually get to see on a given afternoon. The obvious one was that the game went 17 innings and about six hours. But it never would have gotten there if not for Will Middlebrooks, who returned to the lineup and hit a bomb of a grand slam well over the Green Monster to get the Red Sox back in it. Middlebrooks...
The Boston Red Sox might want to think about moving all of the rest of their home games to the road.
With their 11-5 win last night against the Kansas City Royals, they are now 8-6 on the road. On the contrary, they are just 4-10 at home.
A big reason for their win on Monday night was the bat of Will Middlebrooks.
After connecting for his first home run, a grand slam on Sunday...
With a six weeks of games in the books, here are 10 of the most added fantasy baseball players.
Note: the following "changes" are week-over-week percentages.
Change: +16.1 (54.8 percent owned)
Analysis: I hate mentioning a player back-to-back weeks, but Jansen is an exception to the rule because he finally bumped Javy Guerra from the closer's role...
Addison Reed (credits below) This week we take a look at another two rookies out in Oakland and the reason why in Boston they are starting to ask the question: Kevin who ? RP- ADDISON REED (CHI SOX)- Reed has been lights out in Chicago this year in his 9 innings of work. Reed has struck out 12 batters, has a 0.00 ERA and a 0.89 WHIP. Manager Robin Ventura removed one rookie...
Kelly Shoppach has been showing off some of his speed this season. Earlier in the season, the veteran catcher stole the first base of his career on a rumbling, bumbling, stumbling effort into second base. On Monday night, Shoppach recorded another first with his feet. The 32-year-old catcher let off a shot over the left fielders head in Kansas City's Kauffman Stadium in the Red...
The Red Sox bullpen was taxed on Monday, but they're not catching a break anytime soon. Boston's in the midst of a 20-day, 20-game stretch that continues against the Royals, so they won't be getting any rest unless the starting rotation can provide it for them. Felix Doubront will have to be that guy on Monday with the Sox in Kansas City, which might also be a good thing...
