David Ross Finds Offensive Rhythm, Which Represents Big Bonus for Red Sox

BOSTON — David Ross could have maintained the .120 average he entered Friday’s game with for the rest of the season and he still would have held some value. If he starts delivering at the plate, the Red Sox are receiving a bonus. Ross came to Boston as one of baseball’s most respected backup catchers, yet it had nothing to do with his offensive potential. Ross hit just .256...

David Ross goes deep twice

Ryan Dempster's 10 strikeouts were nearly overshadowed by the offensive support his teammates provided in his first win as a member of the Boston Red Sox. Boston had 17 hits, including nine for extra bases, in a 7-3 win over the Houston Astros on Friday night as the Red Sox continued one of the best opening months in team history. Backup catcher David Ross cleared the Green...

David Ortiz Puts the "Boston" Back in Boston Red Sox

In a city like Boston, pride heals wounds. After the blow of the bombings last week at the Boston Marathon, the city’s grief was met with unmistakable pride. Facebook posts and Tweets vowed that the city would quickly recover from the attacks and that police would catch the perpetrators swiftly, which they did. Nothing instills pride in us Bostonians like our sports teams. When...

Ortiz Hits The Ground Running

The 2013 Red Sox are counting on David Ortiz as much as any Red Sox team ever has. Going into 2003 and 2004 the club expected Manny Ramirez and Nomar Garciaparra to shoulder most of the offensive load. In 2007, Ortiz was the leader of the Sox lineup, but they still had Manny, Mike Lowell, Kevin Youkilis, and an emerging Dustin Pedroia. Contrast that with the current supporting cast...

Red Sox-Astros Live: Ryan Dempster Still Looking for First Win As Sox Welcome Old Friend Erik Bedard to Fenway

8 a.m. ET: Win No. 1 has been elusive. Ryan Dempster has pitched well for the Red Sox in his four starts, but he still hasn’t been able to pick up his first win of the season. The right-hander will have a great opportunity on Friday, though, as he’ll toe the rubber against the lowly Astros. Clay Buchholz and the Sox took care of business in the series opener on Thursday behind...

Mike Napoli’s MLB-Leading RBI a Team Effort, Can Improve With David Ortiz Back in Lineup (Video)

Mike Napoli‘s swing has fit right in so far at Fenway Park. The first baseman has driven in a league-high 27 runs so far this season, and is on par to break his career record of 75 runs batted in. Napoli’s big bat turned heads in the beginning of the season, especially in David Ortiz‘s absence, but his leading RBI numbers are the product of a full team effort. Jim Rice joined...
