So much for Chicago building around Peavy.
After scratching him from tonight's game, the Chicago White Sox send Jake Peavy to Boston in a three-team deal. In return, they recieve outfield prospect Avisail Garcia from the Tigers. Detroit also sends reliever Brayan Villareval to Boston and they recieve Jose Iglesias from Boston. Details of a completed deal has been initally reported by WEEI's Alex Speier but MLB Trade Rumors has been working their wonderful magic and updating this as more news comes out.
This one stings all of us here at Ted's Army as we're all big fans of Iglesias. He finally appeared to figure it out at the plate and earned back his "shortstop of the future" title. He was struggling a bit lately but he was still the frontrunner to become the AL Rookie of the Year. He'll be Detroit's backup plan in case their current shortstop Jhonny Peralta gets suspended in the Biogenesis debacle. (Which by the way, the New York Daily News is claiming it will happen.)
The return is huge as Peavy is a quality pitcher even if he is a health risk. He's going to fill Clay Buchholz's spot until he returns and then we'll see who becomes the odd man out of the rotation. It could be Ryan Dempster since he has experience coming out of the bullpen.
Peavy may not be the pitcher who was flat out dominant in San Diego and got a NL Cy Young in 2007. He's signed through to next season so he'll be the Sox fourth starter for the rest of this season and next. They also get themselves a young arm in Villareal who had himself a good season in 2012 (3-5, 2.43 ERA, 66K in 54 2/3 IP) but really strugged to start this season before being sent down in late April.
This now leaves the Red Sox out of a third baseman right now. They could promote Will Middlebrooks and put him back at third or they could promote Xander Bogaerts and try and use his hot bat to put some life into the lineup like the Orioles did with Manny Machado. The other option is to convince Michael Young that Boston is so much better than Texas so he can drop that no trade clause and come here.
If more news breaks on this, and it definitely will, stay with Ted's Army as this trade unfolds.

Jake Peavy was finally dealt Tuesday night (pending medicals). Boston is obviously worried about their rotation depth, due to Clay Bucholz’s current ailments.
