It seems like just yesterday the entire nation was in mourning as result of the horrific events that occured in Newtown, CT. Here we are a few months later and the events that occurred in December are still fresh in the public's mind. In a league wide effort to help support those who were affected by the shooting, MLB commissioner Bud Selig has decided that all 30 teams will wear ribbons on their uniforms for Opening Day, and the Red Sox and Yankees will be a part of a special pregame memorial. Here is the official MLB announcement: "Pregame ceremonies will include a moment of silence, at which time the center-field scoreboard will feature the victims’ names, and an acknowledgment of Newtown police and firefighters. The players will also wear special ribbons on their uniforms–a tribute that baseball commissioner Bud Selig has asked of all other 28 major league teams to wear for their opening games as well." Connecticut is an interesting state when it comes to sports...

Open letter to Hal Steinbrenner: May we start calling you “Isiah?”

Dear madam or sir,If I were you, I’d buy one of those authentic Yankee Stadium $18 rain ponchos, the souped-up garbage bag liners, and wear it everywhere. Because vegetables could be flying, and some will be on target. Don't worry about tomatoes. But an acorn squash, that can really hurt. If I were you, I’d hire a taster. And a guy who carries caged canaries. And one of...

Jackie Bradley Jr's Opening Day roster hopes take a hit

The Red Sox have a roster spot available for an outfielder coming out of Spring Training. Unfortunately for young phenom Jackie Bradley Jr., the available spot is in left field. After being drafted 40th overall out of the University of South Carolina, JBJ has appeared...

Jeter limited to minor-league games

New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman says shortstop Derek Jeter will play only in minor league spring training games for the rest of spring training. The move could cut short how much time Jeter would miss if he starts the season on the 15-day disabled list. By not playing in major league exhibitions, the Yankees want to be able to backdate Jeter's start time on the...

According to Trenton Thunder beat writer Josh Norris, former Yankee Chien-Ming Wang was visible at the Yankees’ spring training complex down in Tampa, Fla. this morning. However, Wang has not signed a contract with the team just yet. The Yankees had scouted Wang in the WBC, where he pitched well for his native Taiwan, going 1-0...

Stephen Drew cleared to start baseball activities

Concussions are serious business in sports.  A concussion all but derailed Justin Morneau's career.  A series of concussion ma have been the trigger that caused Ryan Freel to commit suicide.  This is why the eagle and players take it easy when trying to come back.  For Stephen Drew and the Boston Red Sox, his return may have taken a while, but they want him to be ready...

Dominican Republic Wins World Baseball Classic; Robinson Cano MVP

Puerto Rico never had a chance against the DR in San Francisco Tuesday night. Edwin Encarnacion got the scoring started with a two run double in the first, and that would end up being...

Phillies Head To Fenway South For Rare Match-Up Against Red Sox In Fort Myers

MLB And Selig Off Base In Latest Suit

There’s arrogance and there’s Major League Baseball arrogance, which is on another level. Major League Baseball, as often has been the case when things don’t go its way, resorted to strong-arm tactics and finally the courts in its futile effort to get confidential documents from Biogenesis and its operator, Anthony Bosch. Major League Baseball filed suit today in South Florida...
