It seems like just yesterday the entire nation was in mourning as result of the horrific events that occured in Newtown, CT. Here we are a few months later and the events that occurred in December are still fresh in the public's mind. In a league wide effort to help support those who were affected by the shooting, MLB commissioner Bud Selig has decided that all 30 teams will wear ribbons on their uniforms for Opening Day, and the Red Sox and Yankees will be a part of a special pregame memorial.
Here is the official MLB announcement:
"Pregame ceremonies will include a moment of silence, at which time the center-field scoreboard will feature the victims’ names, and an acknowledgment of Newtown police and firefighters. The players will also wear special ribbons on their uniforms–a tribute that baseball commissioner Bud Selig has asked of all other 28 major league teams to wear for their opening games as well."
