The Boston Red Sox announced the signing of reliever Koji Uehara on Tuesday. Uehara, 37, will receive a one-year deal with a $4.25 million base salary, according to Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports. The righty posted a 1.75 ERA in 36 innings in 2012, but missed time with a strained lat muscle. He'll join Andrew Bailey and Junichi Tazawa in Boston's bullpen. The Red Sox have spent $124.45 million to sign Uehara, Mike Napoli, Shane Victorino, David Ortiz, Jonny Gomes and David Ross.
BEST OF MAXIM
It was widely reported that veteran reliever Koji Uehara had agreed to join the Red Sox bullpen, and that became official on Tuesday morning.
The Red Sox officially announced the signing of Uehara to a one-year deal. While the financial terms of the deal were not enclosed, Uehara’s one-year contract will be reportedly worth $4.25 million.
The signing also gives the Red Sox a full...
Immediate reaction from Red Sox fans, myself included, was negative about Stephen Drew's deal. After all, $9.5 million sounds steep for a guy who suffered a massive ankle injury that disrupted his last two seasons (and who played poorly around that injury).
I've since read a couple of defenses of the deal (including Jonah Keri's at Grantland and Rob Neyer's at SBNation...
The Red Sox are announcing the signing of Ryan Dempster at a press conference right now, and just beforehand said they've DFA'd RHP Pedro Beato.
Beato was the consensus assumed choice among Red Sox-related chatter this morning on Twitter after word came down regarding Dempster's press conference being scheduled. The Sox' 40-man roster is full, according to WEEI...
Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.
Cody Ross is still in free agent limbo, awaiting a team to sign him to the three-year deal he’s been seeking.
The Red Sox say they’re still in it, but with Jonny Gomes and Shane Victorino added to the outfield...
A person familiar with the negotiations tells The Associated Press that shortstop Stephen Drew and the Boston Red Sox have agreed to a $9.5 million, one-year contract.
Drew will take a physical before the deal can be finalized, the person said Tuesday, speaking on condition of anonymity because the agreement was not complete.
Drew hit .250 with five homers and 16 RBIs in 39 games...
If there’s one thing Red Sox fans can be sure of this season, it’s that Ryan Dempster will be ready to take the ball every fifth day.
Dempster, who has been a workhorse in recent years, was officially introduced as the newest member of the Red Sox by general manager Ben Cherington on Wednesday. The right-hander joins the Red Sox on a two-year deal, and should help bolster a rotation...
The Red Sox’ starting pitching was subpar in 2012, and general manager Ben Cherington is looking to make sure that isn’t the case against this season.
The Sox officially introduced Ryan Dempster at a news conference at Fenway Park on Wednesday, and Cherington was quick to point out what exactly the team saw in the right-hander that made him an offseason target.
Ben Cherington stood in front of the media on Wednesday to introduce his newest signing. Starting pitching, Cherington said, was one of the areas the club was looking to upgrade in the offseason.
The way they plan on doing that, apparently, is to add veteran right-hander Ryan Dempster, who was introduced on Wednesday afternoon at Fenway Park. The veteran starter has seen varying...
With still no new news on the Mike Napoli contract situation, the Boston Red Sox made the signing of RHP Ryan Dempster official on Wednesday.
To make room for Dempster on the 40-man roster, they designated RHP Pedro Beato for assignment.
Here's the full release from the Red Sox:
BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today signed right-handed pitcher Ryan Dempster to a two...

shortstop Stephen Drew, according to Jayson Stark of ESPN.
#RedSox have some interest in Stephen Drew, sources say. Appear to see him mostly as a one-year stopgap as Iglesias & Bogaerts develop.

Free agent shortstop Stephen Drew agreed to a one-year, $9.5 million deal with the Red Sox on Monday, likely becoming the club’s stopgap option at shortstop in 2013.
The 29-year old shortstop is the younger brother of retired major league outfielder J.D. Drew, who played in Boston from 2007-2011. Like his older brother, Drew was a highly-touted prospect and a former first-round...
It looks like Jose Iglesias will have to wait another year before taking over at shortstop for the Boston Red Sox.
According to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com, the Red Sox and Stephen Drew have agreed to a one-year deal. Heyman reports that it's worth $9.5 million.
With Mike Aviles being jettisoned in the off-season, it was thought Iglesias would have the chance to be the...
In an effort to forget the dismal 2012 season that saw the Red Sox stumble to a 69-93 record, the team has committed over $160 million to seven significant free agents so far this offseason. In signing DH David Ortiz (2 years, $26 million), RF Shane Victorino (3 years, $39 million), starter Ryan Dempster (2 years, [...]
