Red Sox Clay Buchholz was about as dominant as a pitcher can be during the bottom of the sixth inning Thursday night against the Orioles. He threw a perfect inning – nine pitches, nine strikes, three outs. Bada boom, bada bing. And it isn’t he struck out me, you and your portly buddy. He fanned Adam Jones, Matt Wieters and Chris Davis. Ironically, there is a Wikipedia page dedicated to the 44 pitchers who have done this in Major League Baseball history. Buchholz has quickly turned himself into the Red Sox’ ace. Since the beginning of June, he’s sported a 6-1 record with a sub-2.00 ERA and sub-1.00 walks/hits per innings pitched. It’s been a much-needed refresher for the Red Sox who have become accustomed to poor performances from their higher-paid starters Josh Beckett and Jon Lester. Here are Buchholz’ nine pitches to K the side last night. And let this be a lesson for the youngsters at home – throw strikes, kids.
