On Tuesday, the Boston Red Sox are expected to activate left handed Franklin Morales from the 15-Day DL and bolster the pitching depth. According to Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe, the Red Sox could send down right hander Alfredo Aceves to Triple-A Pawtucket in order to Morales. Morales hasn’t pitched for Boston since August 23, 2012 after suffering a left shoulder injury that cost him the final 35 games of last season. It wasn’t until the spring training this year that he suffered a back injury that forced him to miss almost the first two months of the 2013 season In five rehab starts between Greenville, Portland, and Pawtucket, Morales went 1-1 with a 3.18 ERA. He struck 13 batters and walked seven in 17 innings pitched. It is expected that manager John Farrell and pitching coach Juan Nieves use Morales in a spot starter/relief role. If an injury to a starter occurs or inconsistency looms for a guy like Ryan Dempster or Felix Doubront, then its possible Morales could fill that ...
