When Joel Hanrahan returns from the disabled list from a sore hamstring the Red Sox are expected to return him to the closers role. Hanrahan’s return to the closers role is expected says Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe, a move that could come as soon as Tuesday. Hanrahan is tentatively scheduled to pitch one inning at Triple-A on Sunday. During Hanrahan’s time away from the team Andrew Bailey has served as the Red Sox closer. Bailey put together a good showing by converting five of six chances. In 12 appearances this year Bailey has a 1.59 ERA. er Abraham of the Boston Globe writes that “it is expected” that Joel Hanrahan (hamstring) will return to the ninth inning when he is activated from the disabled list.

Who will ring the save bell for the Red Sox?

Sunday the Red Sox send Daniel Bard to Double A Portland, making room for Joel Hanrahan to return from the disabled list. It was a short stint for Daniel Bard and he only provided one inning of relief, giving up both a hit and a run. He was not really ready for the Majors as he had only eight appearances in Portland so far, but he was healthy and that was enough. Joel Hanrahan...

Alfredo Aceves still in the Red Sox plans... for now

Last week Tuesday, Alfredo Aceves gave up a horrendous 8 runs in 3 1/3 innings which pretty much sealed the deal with regards to his getting sent down to Triple-A Pawtucket.  This does not seem to be the end of Alfredo Aceves as far as the Red Sox are concerned, but it seems the thoughts are churning as to what to do with the right-hander. If there is something the Red Sox have...

Aces in the hole: Jon Lester and Clay Buchholz

On the laundry list of the Red Sox’ problems in the 2012 season, pitching was somewhere around the top. And Jon Lester and Clay Buchholz were two of the biggest disappointments. Over the years, Lester and Buchholz have been inconsistent and plagued by injuries and health issues. But this season, much to the relief of many previously miserable fans, the two aces are showing their...

Call to action - rock Boston every Monday!

I love the uniforms that were worn as part of the Boston Marathon memorial game. I guess I have a thing for all things nostalgic and this is a big part of every Boston RedSox fan too. The park is Fenway and you can't get that feeling of stepping back in time as you enter a game anywhere else. The history of the team is amazing everywhere you look and this is part of every...

Red Sox 7, Astros 3

David Ross cleared the Green Monster twice with solo home runs and Ryan Dempster struck out a career-high 10 for the Boston Red Sox in a 7-3 win over the Houston Astros on Friday night. David Ortiz homered for the second straight night at Fenway Park. The Red Sox are having one of the best Aprils in club history. Boston (16-7) is two wins short of tying the club record for the month...

Red Sox 8, Astros 4

David Ortiz has even run out of ways to talk about his red-hot return. Ortiz had two hits and three RBIs to extend his torrid start after a long layoff, and Felix Doubront overcame a wild first inning to pitch into the seventh as the Boston Red Sox beat the struggling Houston Astros 8-4 on Saturday night. ''I ain't talking about that anymore,'' said Ortiz, joking...

Trading Places: What are the Red Sox early trade needs in 2013?

Late April trade talk are you serious?! Yes I am, everyone loves talking trades no matter if its week one of the season or day one after the trade deadline is up. Talking trades is like putting together your own fantasy baseball team. Anything is possible and nothing is too outrageous, but for the sake of not getting too crazy we'll keep this discussion to potential needs of...

Red Sox weekly preview: April 29-May5

After a long home stand the Boston Red Sox have a day of travel before they play 6 straight days on the road. The team performed excellently this past week winning 6 of their 7 games they played, including a sweep of the Houston Astros. This week will be slightly more difficult, going north of the border to Toronto and then traveling to Texas to face the Rangers. Monday: Monday is...

Game 25: Red Sox win 6-1 The Red Sox completed the four game sweep of Houston on Sunday afternoon, tying the club record for most wins in April. The Red Sox gathered more than ten hits for the forth straight game, and improved...

Four Bases: Astros 1, Red Sox 6

These wins are the type of wins that are like money in the bank; when it comes to September and it is tight, an extra one of these will pay dividends. The Red Sox, who already won the series after collecting three victories of four runs or more, did not let the Astros out of their grasp. Here are the four bases: First Base: When John Lackey walked two of the first three batters he...

From dumpster to Dempster

Getting his first win of the season for the Red Sox tonight, Dempster looked pretty sharp even against a poor Astro's ball club. Coming into the season Dempster was an after thought in this Red Sox rotation. Now fans are seeing him as the strikeout machine that he has/can be. Tonight he went 6 innings only giving up 2 runs on 4 hits and allowing 3 free passes to first. Yah...
