Ride The Pine:
The Boston Red Sox posted this picture on Instagram today of a three-foot tall cigar shop Indian that has been traveling with the team recently. Jonny Gomes talked about the statue in a recent diary post on ESPN.
Jake Peavy picked up a good luck charm for us in San Francisco with a three-foot tall cigar store Indian. He went with us to Los Angeles and is home here with us. He brought that guy into our lives. So far he’s been good luck and has had some wins in him.
The Sox have won 10 out of their last 13 leading into their Friday night game against the Yankees. The Red Sox have a 6.5 game lead in the AL East and as long as that Indian doesn’t magically make Popeyes’ chicken appear, they should clinch a playoff spot in the next few days.

The Red Sox journey to the Bronx this week for the final time this season, and Jake Peavy will look to get them off on the right foot.
Thursday night will be Peavy’s first taste of the Yankees-Red Sox rivalry, as he takes the mound against the Bronx Bombers for the first time since being traded from the White Sox last month.

Boston Red Sox outfielder Jonny Gomes said recently in his diary on ESPNBoston.com that a cigar store indian sits in the clubhouse for good luck.

The Red Sox open a four-game series with the increasingly irrelevant Evil Empire tonight, sending Jake Peavy to the mound to face Ivan Nova. On Friday, Felix Doubront will take to the hill against fellow left-hander Andy "HGH" Pettitte. On Saturday afternoon, John Lackey will take on someone named David Huff and Sunday afternoon's match-up will feature Jon Lester against...
There's no denying that this 2013 edition of The Carmine Hose has character—and not a few characters. But among all the newcomers, Jonny Gomes and Mike Napoli have led the way in providing visual character to the team—through their prolific beards. We've all been struggling with a nickname for this crew—Idiots II, Fear The Beards—but we've finally decided on ...

A heated rivalry, postseason implications and, perhaps, some added drama stemming from the last time these clubs met, sure sounds like a September matchup between the Yankees and Red Sox. The Yanks and Sox begin a four game series on Thursday in the Bronx with Ivan Nova (8-4, 2.88 ERA) taking on Jake Peavy (3-1, 3.18 ERA.) Nova won the American League...
Beard or no beard, the Boston Red Sox are mashing the baseball right now. Another four home runs Saturday gave the team 17 over its last four games – during a span in which the Red Sox have scored 54 runs. It was Mike Napoli (twice), Jonny Gomes and Xander Bogaerts supplying the power Saturday afternoon. Bogaerts hit his first career home run...
Turning off the TV shouldn’t be an option.
The Red Sox once again fought until the very end Thursday, and the result was a long, eventful, ugly and dramatic 9-8, 10-inning victory over the Yankees that further solidified Boston’s status as a must-watch team.
The Red Sox looked to be well on their way to another victory Thursday, as Jake Peavy took the mound in the seventh inning...
The Red Sox came out on top in a wild 10-inning game in the Bronx tonight, 9-8.
What looked to be a fairly routine win for the Sox turned dramatic in the 7th. Down 7-2, the Yankees batted around in the bottom of the inning, scoring six runs and taking the lead. The inning was a disaster all around. John Farrell left Jake Peavy in to start the inning (questionable), Peavy put two...
4:50 p.m.: Jarrod Saltalamacchia, who is dealing with a back issue, will once again be out of the Red Sox’ lineup. Ryan Lavarnway will get the start behind the plate and bat eighth.
