The Red Sox aren't exactly off to a good start, and much of Red Sox Nation already has plenty of questions about how this team will fare this season. The talent level on the Sox is undeniable, but with a 1-4 record through five games, the beginning of this season is eerily similar to the end of last season. That's not a good thing. There's still plenty of reasons to be optimistic, but the questions still lingering need to be addressed. Don Orsillo dives into some of those questions in this week's edition of his mailbag. What are your thoughts...

MLB Rookie Sideline Reporters Jenny Dell & Britt McHenry Make Debuts

Yes, Boston, we know you have a new sideline reporter. Thanks for telling us on Twitter, via email, etc. Of course we were aware of Jenny Dell when she got Heidi Watney’s old Red Sox sideline reporting gig. Sure, Jenny has a great collection of photos from her pre-NESN days. But Jenny isn’t the only rookie who made her MLB debut last week. Our old friend Britt McHenry, 25, did...

Nick Punto Starting at Shortstop, David Ortiz Batting Cleanup for Daniel Bard's First Start

The shuffling of the lineup continues. Two days after hitting leadoff, Nick Punto is penciled in the nine hole to give Mike Aviles a breather at shortstop after the shortstop twisted his ankle. In the process, Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine also flip-flopped designated hitter David Ortiz and third baseman Kevin Youkilis in the cleanup and fifth spots, a day after Youkilis hit fourth...

Around the Minors 4/9

Pawtucket Red Sox Box Score Overview It’s a shame that Iglesias is off to such a poor start, as Mike Aviles has been pretty terrible too. Lavarnway also has struggled early, going 0-4 today and hitting .167 so far. Middlebrooks wasn’t bad today, going 1-4 witha a strikeout. The PawSox were shut down offensively today, with the only PawSox players with good games are Che...

Join NESN.com Red Sox Reporter Didier Morais for Twitter Q&A on Wednesday at 11 a.m.

This isn't exactly how Red Sox fans hoped their team would rebound after its epic September collapse, but Bobby Valentine's group is sitting at 1-4 through five games, and there are still plenty of questions to be answered. Fortunately, NESN.com Red Sox reporter Didier Morais is ready to take a stab at some of those questions. They can range from how the Sox can solve their...

Aceves Gets First Save In Sox Win

The Red Sox looked to Felix Doubront to put a stop to the skid that has started the Red Sox season.  It was starting to have a very eerie feeling of 2011.  Doubront came out like gangbusters in spring training and all of Red Sox Nation hoped he would do the same in his first start of the season.  (Photo Credit: AP Photo/The Canadian Press, Frank Gunn) Doubront did just that...

Terry Francona won't take part in Fenway Park's 100th anniversary celebration

When the Red Sox celebrate the 100th anniversary of Fenway Park next Friday against the New York Yankees, the manager who was at the helm when Boston snapped their 86-year World Series championship drought won't be in the house. Terry Francona, who unceremoniously departed from the Red Sox following last season's 8-21 finish, told the Boston Globe that he can't "...

Red Sox' 'Getaway Day' Less Exciting Than Phrase Would Have You Believe (Video)

Normally, when you hear someone talking about a "getaway," your ears perk up. You're probably imagining a car chase or some masked bandits on a train riding away with the cops in hot pursuit. Unless you're imagining a baseball version of "getaway day." In that case, all it means is an early game to help make travel to the next venue a little easier. Although...

Lester Great But Offense Not As Red Sox Lose To Blue Jays

Two very good starts, and nothing to show for it - that's Jon Lester's 2012 season in a nutshell after his first two starts. Coming off the Opening Day loss to Justin Verlander and the Detroits Tigers, Lester pitched 8 very strong innings allowing just 3 hits and a pair of walks while striking out 6 in a 3-1 loss to the Blue Jays. The problem continues to be the offense...

How's the Thumb, Josh?

Here's hoping that Josh Beckett''s thumb gets another look before he gets the ball tomorrow. Something was wrong in his first start. Bobby V said "not much of an injury" when it first came up, but let's get a second opinion. Thanks to the days off, it would be easy to slot in Buchholz. And don't, don't, let Josh make the call. He's the most competitive...
