Found July 09, 2012 on Sox and Dawgs:
.500, two games below .500 at home (22-24) but two games above .500 on the road (21-19). If you thought this is where the Boston Red Sox would be at the 2012 All-Star break, you would be a genius. As fans of the team, we hold them to a higher standard and for the most part, we know they do to. But sometimes it just doesn't show. The Red Sox had a good opportunity this weekend to make up ground on the New York Yankees in the AL East standings. Instead, they found the Bronx Bombers take three-of-four games. And if we were to place blame on anyone, it has to lie with the starting pitching. Friday night, Josh Beckett gave up five runs in the 1st inning (loss). Saturday afternoon, Franklin Morales gave up four runs in the 1st inning (loss). After Felix Doubront gave up three runs in the 1st in the nightcap, the Red Sox did rally back for the win. It was the same old story on Sunday night as Jon Lester gave up two runs in the 1st inning. You could possibly put a little bit o...

Interview with Daniel Butler

Daniel Butler is a righty catcher who has been in the Red Sox organization since 2009. He was undrafted out of Arizona and signed with the Red Sox for $10,000. It’s been a bargain for the Red Sox so far, to say the least. He started off slowly with Lowell, hitting .179/.261/.282 with 3 doubles, a triple, and a home run. But he bounced back in 2010. He hit .327/.406/.523 with with...

Red Sox count on getting healthy in second half

As the Boston Red Sox wrapped up the season's first half Sunday night at Fenway Park, injured Dustin Pedroia and nicked-up rookie Will Middlebrooks once again were on the bench. Jacoby Ellsbury hasn't played since April 13, and neither Carl Crawford nor closer Andrew Bailey has played a game all season, heading a disabled list that has featured 20 players. Soon, the Red...

Clay Buchholz Learns Firsthand How Other Factors Can Sideline Major League Pitchers

Clay Buchholz assumed it was just a stomach virus. Two weeks ago, the Red Sox pitcher laid down in the team clubhouse, attempting to fight through pain in his stomach. He soon realized it wasn't a typical ailment. "[I] woke up a couple times in the middle of the night to use the restroom. Right when I stood up, got really light-headed and thought I was going to pass out...

Felix Doubront Uses Determination as Tool in Red Sox Comeback Victory

Admit it, you got a sinking feeling after watching Mark Teixeira's high fly ball sail over the center field wall, putting the Red Sox in a 3-0 hole before they had even recorded an out. After watching the Yankees score five and four runs in the first innings, respectively, of the first two games of the series, there had to be that feeling of "here we go again" for both...

Red Sox' Issues Still Start With Starting Pitching and Other Thoughts From Baseball's First Half

It's time for the All-Star break in the baseball season, and that means different things to a lot of people. For some players, it's a chance to head to Kansas City with the honor (or burden) of playing in the Midsummer Classic. For the rest of the league, it's a chance to rest and recharge the batteries. For fans, it's a boring few days. There's a lot to look...

Vicente Padilla's Comments About Mark Teixeira Could Be Spark Red Sox Need to Fire Up Playoff Run (Video)

The war of the words is on between the Red Sox and the Yankees -- will it finally spill over into the field? In the wake of Vicente Padilla's shots fired in the direction of Mark Teixeira, the rivalry between Boston and New York could be about to explode after simmering quietly beneath the surface for quite some time now. NESN Nation's Dan Duquette is hoping that the Red...

A Look at the Red Sox First Half

we are in the 2012 Major League Baseball All-Star break, I figured it would be a good time to take a look at Boston Red Sox and their performance by the numbers in through the first 86 games of the season. As we now the team sits at .500 a mere 43-43 at the break with a sub .500 home record of 22-24 at Fenway Park, while on the road they are 21-19. So what are the teams issues...
