Just when the Red Sox looked like they were well on their way up a path headed to the playoffs, their journey took a wrong turn. Despite the emotional highs brought on by the returns of Jacoby Ellsbury, Carl Crawford and Dustin Pedroia to the lineup, the team enters Tuesday losers of four straight and once again in last place of the division. Hopefully, when David Ortiz returns to the lineup, the Sox can find their way yet again.
BEST OF MAXIM
Will Middlebrooks had a fun time in Texas. The rest of the Red Sox, not so much. Boston dropped a tough loss on Wednesday to the Rangers, ending a road trip through the Lone Star state on a bad note. Middlebrooks, however, enjoyed a return to his hometown state by batting .500 over the course of the three games. If only the rest of the Sox offense was as hot. In any case, NESN Nation...
Editor's note: The temperature gauge is a Bill James-created statistic that measures how hot or cold hitters are. We will spotlight Red Sox and opposing team temperatures on game days. Maybe Adrian Gonzalez needed to get loose. Whatever it was, the star first baseman for the Red Sox is now hitting the best he has all season. He has the highest mark on Boston's temperature...
Just like Ben Cherington drew it up in the offseason, RBIs from Kelly Shoppach and Mike Aviles led to Boston's only offense in a pitcher's duel in Arlington.
Clay Buchholz threw yet another strong start. He stifled the Rangers' offense to four hits over seven innings. He did give up one run, and had some command issues, allowing three walks. He also didn't dominate...
Jon Lester took the mound for the Red Sox and it would be an understatement to say that it did not go well. Lester has had bad outing after bad outing this season and this performance showed that this doesn't look like it is going to change anytime soon. Lester brought the Sox on their way to being swept by the Toronto Blue Jays who were struggling themselves before heading...
Boston general manager Ben Cherrington has gone on the record stating that the Red Sox would consider making sizable moves prior to the July 31st trade deadline.
According to Joe McDonald of ESPNBoston, one such bold move would be the acquisition of ace Josh Johnson from the Miami Marlins.
McDonald writes regarding Boston’s pitching woes: “The Red Sox have scored a major league...
A lot can change over the course of a week, just ask the Red Sox. The Sox were riding high after taking three of four from the first-place White Sox earlier this week, but those good times seem like a distant memory after the Blue Jays came in and bludgoened Boston this weekend. The Red Sox aren't out of it yet, but they'll be running out of time before too long. Onto this...
Who has the time to keep up with all of the Sox minor league teams? We'll do all the work to keep you updated with the beat on the farm.

J.C. Linares (RF): 2-for-6, 2B, 2 RBI
Nate Spears (2B-3B): 2-for-6, 2 RBI

With the Roy Oswalt battling a back injury, the Texas Rangers threw out Scott Feldman to make the spot start against the Boston Red Sox last night. Feldman had struggled this season but the Red Sox made him look like Cy Young last night in a 9-1 loss.
The only run the Red Sox would manage off of Feldman over his seven innings was a Jarrod Saltalmacchia solo home run in the 2nd...
For a while, it felt like the Red Sox were being singled out. Boston's dealt with its fair share of injuries in the 2012 season, but as the year goes on, more and more teams are dealing with many of the same problems. The Yankees will be without Alex Rodriguez for a while and the Blue Jays are now coming to grips to life without catcher J.P. Arencibia. That means that not only...

The Cleveland Indians have acquired Brent Lillibridge from the Boston Red Sox for minor-league pitcher Jose De La Torre.
Lillibridge has played every position except pitcher and catcher. He is expected to join the Indians on Wednesday.
The 28-year-old Lillibridge has hit .212 in 295 games for Atlanta, the Chicago White Sox and Boston. He was dealt by Chicago to the Red Sox on June...

The July 31 trade deadline is quickly approaching. With the second wild card added this year, many teams that normally wouldn't be in contention find themselves in the thick of the playoff hunt and the competition for help is getting fierce. The Red Sox may be a .500 team entering Wednesday, but with a new arm in the rotation, they could make a run at a postseason berth. Josh...
No. Charlie Moore will not be making a guest appearance anywhere in this column. Sorry to disappoint all those loyal NESN viewers out there. And while this article will deal mostly with the Miami Marlins roster, I’ll do my best to refrain from employing endless fishing clichés. The Red Sox have encountered some rough waters [...]
In what is the most pivotal road trip thus far in the 2012 Red Sox season, the team dropped the first game 9-1 in Texas to the Rangers Monday night. The loss drops them below .500 for the first time since June 16. The games don’t get any easier as they will face the Rangers the next two nights before a travel day on Thursday before taking on the Yankees this weekend in New York...
