All it took was two swings of the bat to morph OF Che-Hsuan Lin from an obscure Single-A prospect into a slightly less obscure Single-A prospect. Lin, representing the Red Sox in Sunday's 'XM All-Star Futures Game,' went 2-2 in the game and was named the MVP. His two hits included a solo HR to left and a single.
The 19-year old prospect has been touted by some scouts as having a skill set similar to Jacoby Ellsbury (excellent speed, above-average defense, line-drive power bat.) Lin hails from Taiwan and was signed by the Sox in June of 2007. Boston pried him away from a couple of other teams and they didn't even have to offer him the most money to do so. Lin says that he just "wanted to be a part of the Red Sox."
Since 'becoming a part of the Red Sox,' Lin has put up some decent numbers in Single-A Greenville. He is hitting .251 with 5 HR, 34 RBI, 26 SB and a .346 OBP. Add to that a homerun in Yankee Stadium coupled with a Futures Game MVP award and Lin is compiling himself a nice little resume. Give it a few more years and he might completely shed the 'slightly less obscure Single-A prospect' label.
