Boston Red Sox righthander John Lackey had his throwing elbow examined recently by Dr. Lewis Yocum, WEEI.com reported Tuesday.
The report on the radio station's website did not indicate whether Lackey has any damage to the joint or will require surgery. There has been speculation that Lackey may need surgery after another sub-par season.
In 2009, Lackey left the Los Angeles Angels to sign a five-year, $82.5 million contract with the Red Sox. He was 14-11 with a 4.40 ERA in 2010 and 12-12 with a 6.41 ERA this season, contributing to the team's late-season collapse.
Lackey was among three pitchers who reportedly drank beer, ate fried chicken and played video games in the clubhouse during games while the team was mired in what became the worst September collapse in baseball history.
Lackey, 33, has three years at $15.25 million per season remaining on his contract.
