By SBRForum.com At the beginning of the season, the Boston Red Sox were hoping to be one of the 10 teams to be competing for a World Series ring in October. By the end of it, the Red Sox are just wondering when they’ll even be back in the playoffs. After a horrendous season, there’s no question that the Red Sox have plenty of work to do in the offseason. The good news is that they traded away a boatload of previous financial commitments in the form of Adrian Gonzalez, Carl Crawford and Josh Beckett, and now they have the money to maneuver throughout the market. People making their MLB picks this season saw the Red Sox pitching staff turn awful effort after awful effort this year. That means that a star pitcher like Zack Greinke should be on the top of their wish list. The Red Sox will return Jon Lester and Clay Buchholz to the rotation, along with (hopefully) a healthy John Lackey. Even so, they could use another big-time arm to anchor the rotation.
