As Tuesday’s Major League Baseball trade deadline approaches, the Boston Red Sox are reportedly fielding calls for starting pitcher Josh Beckett. The Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Dodgers have been in contact with the Red Sox about Beckett, but the team has actually been aggressively shopping the 32-year-old to several teams. Beckett is owed $31.5 million over the next two seasons and Boston has been looking to shed payroll recently. Beckett is 5-9 in 17 starts this year, with a 4.57 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP. After the postseason revelations about Beckett’s conduct on off-days in the team’s clubhouse, things haven’t exactly been great between the Texas native and the Red Sox. The Red Sox have also been willing to part with guys like Cody Ross, Ryan Sweeney and Kelly Shoppach to try and get help for the stretch run or next season.
