By SBRForum.com One of the biggest stories coming out of the offseason antics of MLB teams has been what the Boston Red Sox will do to pull out of the nose dive they have been in for the past few years.  They finished with their worst record since 1965 last season and need to do something to get back into the thick of things.  With the rumor that they have set their sights on Minnesota Twins catcher Joe Mauer, they just may be doing that.  If they can get Mauer to their team, the Boston Red Sox may be viable MLB picks yet again in 2013. One of the biggest additions Mauer will add to the team is his hitting.  The Sox have lacked in a big, powerhouse hitter for a little while now and Mauer could be just what the team needs to get them back into the playoffs, maybe as early as 2013.  They will need to move some things around so secure him as a player on the team, but they look like they are willing to make those sacrifices.  The team has always liked Mauer, and he has had kind things ...

Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Ryan Lavarnway Happy to Hear About Addition of Backup Catcher David Ross

The pecking order behind the plate for the Red Sox is getting pretty full. But that doesn’t worry current starter Jarrod Saltalamacchia, who seems to be greeting the addition of new backup catcher David Ross with a “the more the merrier” approach. “When I did see him sign, I was kind of excited,” Saltalamacchia said Saturday, according to ESPN Boston. “I’ve gotten to...

Scott Atchison, Rich Hill Expected Back for Red Sox, With Franklin Morales Coming Into Spring Training as Starter

While most of the focus this offseason on the Red Sox pitching staff will be on adding members, the team has some versatile pieces from within the fold that it’s still looking to make the most of. Relievers Scott Atchison and Rich Hill, who were both released Friday, aren’t necessarily off the Red Sox’ radar. General manager Ben Cherington said Saturday that both would be offered...

Red Sox Non-Tender Atchison, Hill, Sweeney

The Boston Red Sox had until midnight on Friday to decide who tender contracts to that were under the team's control. As you might have expected, the Red Sox had some tough decisions to make. GM Ben Cherington decided to not tender contracts to three players. Those three players are Scott Atchison, Rich Hill and Ryan Sweeney. To me, Hill is the most surprising. He...

Vote: It’s Christmas at Fenway, Which Free Agent Is at the Top of Your Red Sox Wish List?

Christmas time comes but once a year and the only thing hotter than the chestnuts roasting or hot chocolate is the MLB’s hot stove. The Red Sox are coming off a tough season in 2012 with a last-place finish in the American League East and 93 losses making it a rather forgettable summer. But with the offseason comes new life and a few big-name free agents could change the tune of...

John Farrell Says He’s Seen Ways Jon Lester, Pitching Staff Can Improve in 2013 (Video)

The Red Sox had a lot of issues during their 2012 campaign, but pitching was definitely one of the most significant. Farrell, who has a history of working with members of the current staff, presents an opportunity to...

Report: Red Sox, Mike Napoli ‘Close’ to Agreement on Three-Year Contract

The Red Sox may be closing in on making the first big splash of the winter meetings. WEEI.com reports that the Red Sox are “close” to signing first baseman/catcher Mike Napoli to a three-year deal. The potential financial terms are unknown at this point. And because the Rangers did not make Napoli a qualifying offer, the Red Sox will not lose a draft pick should they officially...

All We’re Missing is Leskanta Claus

For those of you in the Boston area (or with access to NESN), today is Christmas at Fenway Park, featuring lights, snow, Wally, Ryan Lavarnway, Ben Cherington, raffles, the Enchanted Village Where Everyone is Named “Jimy Williams,” The Nutmeg Gingersnap Singers and possibly a racy version of the nativity performed entirely by Paxton Crawford. Apparently [...]

The Twins new direction

Yesterday, the course of the Twins’ offseason was set. The worst kept secret in the Twins organization (to the point that I don’t believe it was even a secret) was that Denard Span was going to be traded. It was also apparent that the Twins needed to improve their rotation. Terry Ryan and the rest of the of the front office had stated that they would seek to add three starting...
