The Boston Red Sox signed free agent infielder Nick Punto to a two-year deal worth $3 million on Wednesday. Punto, 34, essentially takes the place of Jed Lowrie, who was shipped to the Houston Astros earlier in the day. An 11-year veteran, Punto batted .278 with one homer and 20 RBIs in 133 at-bats with the St. Louis Cardinals last season. Punto has played 250 or more games at second base, third base and shortstop.
