The Red Sox will be represented for Jake Peavy's scheduled start on Thursday in Chicago against the Tigers. A baseball source told MassLive.com that the Red Sox wanted to see the White Sox right-hander pitch again after coming off the disabled list.
Peavy made his first start since June 4 on Sunday tossing six innings against the Braves. He allowed four runs two earned. Peavy was out with a rib fracture.
Another baseball source believes interest in Peavy will be heavy: any contending team should want a look. The White Sox will listen to offers for anyone the source said for the right offer. It's hard to understand however what their motivation to part with Addison Reed or Chris Sale would be.
Once Chicago reliever Jesse Crain is healthy the Red Sox will want to see him pitch as well according to sources.
