Theo has made his next move in the chess game that is the Sox roster.

From WEEI:

The Red Sox, in need of depth on the mound following Thursday's 13-11 win over the Rockies, recalled left-handed pitcher Fabio Castro on Friday and optioned outfielder Josh Reddick to the minor leagues.

Castro, who was with the Red Sox April 27-28 but did not appear in a game, has a 6.65 ERA in 43.1 innings for Triple-A Pawtucket this season. He has pitched better of late, though, with an ERA of 3.46 in his last eight outings, all out of the bullpen.

So here's to hoping that the offense continues to surge and we don't see Castro in any meaningful innings.  6.65 ERA?  Where's he been getting his pitching tips from, Achison?  Yikes!

Also, because it wouldn't be a complete day if I didn't pass along some information about Lowell, its been confirmed that his decrepit old-man hip killed the trade to the Rangers, not his thumb.

Also from WEEI:

According to multiple baseball sources, it was concerns about Red Sox infielder Mike Lowell's right hip -- rather than the torn ligament in his right thumb -- that led to the deal that would have shipped the four-time All-Star to Texas... the sources said that the Rangers made their decision to pull out of a deal that would have sent Lowell to Texas (along with $9 million of his $12 million salary) for catcher Max Ramirez due to concerns about the surgically repaired right hip of the 2007 World Series MVP.

Phew... now that I've gotten my Lowell fix, hopefully I'll stop shaking.  Enjoy your weekend, folks.
