The Reds did not get the leadoff man they, or the fans desired but they did make a surprising move that helped bolster their bullpen. The Reds acquired Jonathan Broxton from the Kansas City Royals for minor league pitchers Donnie Joseph and J.C. Sulbaran. The deal was announced just after 3:30 pm much to the surprise of Reds fans considering the current strength of the Reds bullpen. Broxton has gone 1-2 with a 2.27 ERA so far in KC. He’s walked 14 batters while striking out 25. He is a big league reliever and has served primarily as a closer for KC this year due to the injury of Royals closer Joakim Soria. Since Broxton became KC’s closer he has 23 saves in 27 chances. In exchange for Broxton, the Reds traded 24-year old LHP Donnie Joseph. Joseph was drafted in the 3rd round in 2009 out of Houston. He was rated the 12th best prospect in the Reds organization by Baseball America. Joseph split time in Pensacola and Louisville this year has an 8-3 record. He currently has a 2.86 ERA ...
