The Reds are nearing a three-year deal with closer Jonathan Broxton, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports. The deal would allow the Reds to move current closer Aroldis Chapman to the rotation leaving the closer job in good hands.
Broxton who had spent his entire career with the Dodgers up until last season, signed a one-year with the Royals as he was coming off of minor elbow surgery. Broxton went 1-2 with a 2.27 ERA, 23 saves. 25 Ks, 14 walks in 35.2 innings for the Royals.
Just prior to the trade deadline, Broxton was traded to the Reds where he became the eight inning guy, posting a 2.82 ERA in 22 1/3 innings with 4 saves.
