CINCINNATI (AP) -- The Reds called up outfielder Xavier Paul from Triple-A Louisville to help fill in for the loss of first baseman Joey Votto. Paul could help with the Reds' struggling offense. He batted .332 in 66 games with nine homers and 48 RBIs. Votto had surgery on Tuesday to repair torn cartilage in his left knee and is expected to be sidelined for three to four weeks. He's the Reds' top hitter, batting .342 and leading the NL in doubles, walks and extra-base hits. The Reds optioned right-hander Todd Redmond back to Louisville after a one-day stay in Cincinnati. The Reds called him up before Tuesday's 4-0 win over Arizona because they were concerned that starter Johnny Cueto would have trouble with a blister on his pitching hand.

Reds can overcome temporary loss of Votto

CINCINNATI There are no placards hanging in the Cincinnati Reds clubhouse that say, "Keep a stiff upper lip," but there are, indeed, more stiff upper lips these days than on the Queen's Guard at Buckingham Palace. It is all due to the loss of All-Star first baseman Joey Votto for three weeks after he underwent arthroscopic knee surgery Tuesday. The team, of course...

CINCINNATI (AP) -- Cincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto is defending the decision to wait before getting an MRI that found torn cartilage in his left knee. Votto hurt the knee while sliding into a base on June 29, but didn't get an MRI because it started to improve. He said the knee felt close to normal before it started acting up again over the weekend, prompting the test...

Daily Brief: Votto out 3-4 weeks

Last Game The Diamondbacks weren’t really bad enough to be swept by the Cubs last weekend, so maybe it’s no surprise that they busted out against the Reds last night. They touched Bronson Arroyo for 4 runs in the first inning, and that’s all they needed. With the Diamondbacks’ All-Star Wade Miley on the mound, the Reds’ All-Star Joey Votto out of the line-up, and an ejection...

The second baseman homered and had a season-high five RBIs, then scored the go-ahead run in the seventh inning on Todd Frazier's single to help the Reds rally from a six-run deficit in a 7-6 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday...

Video: Inside the MLB Fan Cave

Reds pitcher Bronson Arroyo’s lanky frame has helped cement his reputation on the mound. He’s also finding time to make his mark as a rock musician with platinum aspirations. Recently, he sat down with MLB Fan Cave to put together a goofy sing-a-long video titled “Red Hooded Sweatshirt.” You have to stick around for the ending as the ditty ends up featuring teammate Ardoldis...

Brewers try to pounce on Votto-less Reds

By JEFF BARTL, STATS Writer The Cincinnati Reds didn't panic when they learned injured slugger Joey Votto would miss at least three weeks, nor did they when trailing by six runs in their latest contest.
