The Dodgers' 2013 opening day roster payroll of $225805500 more than doubled the $114 million on opening day last year. Six games into the second-half of the season the fruits of owning the second most expensive roster have catapulted the Dodgers atop the NL West. The Dodgers had scored 41 runs in their last four games before entering Thursday's game and Zack Greinke had given up just one run in his three previous starts but Cincinnati's Mat Latos put a stop to the Dodgers' latest run. The Reds hit two homers and Latos allowed just two runs as Cincinnati beat the Dodgers 5-2 snapping their six-game win streak. The loss cut the Dodgers' lead in the NL West to a half-game over Arizona. "The damage they did was big damage it wasn't just a single" Greinke said. "It was a good job by them." Greinke (8-3 3.49 ERA) who had been lifetime 4-0 against the Reds allowed four runs on six hits over seven innings and got his first career loss at Dodger Stadium with 53275 in attendance the Dodgers' 12th sellout of the year. Greinke had won six straight games and eight of his last nine starts before suffering his third loss of the season. "Greinke's tough" Reds manager Dusty Baker said. "That's nothing new. "That's what we saw when he was in Milwaukee. It's not like it was a surprise what we were going to get. The guy isn't making that much money for that period of time for nothing." Meanwhile Latos (9-3 ERA 3.53) who had given up 12 runs in his last three starts outdueled Greinke and got the win after giving up two runs (one earned) on eight hits over 7 innings. He also earned his first career win at Dodger Stadium after nine previous failed attempts. "I though he was amazing." Grienke said. "He's gotten better all the time." The Dodgers were 9 games out of first on the morning of June 22 but they've since gone on a major league-best 23-6 splurge and are first in the NL West despite Thursday's loss.
